Lawson, Ragland, Washington
The Bills have a brand new defense.

Re: Lawson, Ragland, Washington
These are all Rex type of guys. Our defense turns it around this year. Big time.

OR if they don't we can fire Rex?
-
Re: Lawson, Ragland, Washington
On offense, RT, RG, Receivers except for Sammy are all question marks or substandard. Our QB situation after this year could be an embarrassing disaster.
Oddly though, I feel really good about the Bills right now.
-
Re: Lawson, Ragland, Washington
Two defensive players of the year and a situational interior pass rusher, who (if Rex can motivate) has the talent to be great. Not bad.

If it doesn't will we use the rookie excuse?
-
Re: Lawson, Ragland, Washington
Oh there will be excuses. You can bet on that.
-
Re: Lawson, Ragland, Washington
I don't think Rex is our answer, but I do like our selections. I think Rex will continue to be a poor in game decision maker. Talent doesn't fix that.
I didnt love love the trade value for getting Ragland but I'm happy they got him with that pick. Doesn't seem like like the trade up for tj graham

agree completely. this trade made sense. Graham will always be a mystery for me.

Baltimore was ready to pick him, according to reports. Picking a 1st round value player for a couple 4th rounders ( especially when we already had an extra one ) is peanuts for a starting MLB with talent.

How many of these drafts do we need to get the D back to where it was before he got here?
-
Re: Lawson, Ragland, Washington
I think we hit big on the first two picks but I'm not sold on Washington. He seems like a career rotational guy like Bryant or Carrington. We need to invest a couple picks on the O-line but I'm thinking there will be a little run on them in the 4th. Crossing my fingers that we snag a good one. Hawkins, Beavers, Greene, McGovern could all help.

Hardly. I watch every Buckeye game. He gets in the backfield constantly and is a rare DT like Rankins ( #12 to the Saints ) in that he has multiple pass rush moves and cannot stay blocked.
-
Re: Lawson, Ragland, Washington
All things said I am happy with how the draft played out for us so far. I would like another 5 technique later, a CB, a QB, and an OT.

Whaley and Pegula shouldn't brook any. Rex was given a top 5 defense, to which he has received a first, two seconds, and a third round pick to bolster and his brother to help coach. Either his system works under these conditions or he's hopeless and it's time to go.

Re: Lawson, Ragland, Washington
Very excited over these guys. If Lawson does more then stand up and hold his block, it's an upgrade from what they got from Mario last year. Ragland has a chance to be the best Bills LB since.... Takeo? If nothing more Washington adds to the rotation and inside pass rush.

Bingo.
Lawson, Dareus, Washington and Hughes on the front. P.Brown with Ragland in the middle, still need a LBer to replace Bradham. Set with three corners, at least (Darby, Gilmore, Robey in the slot) maybe four (I still like Butler). Get a safety and the right coordinator and BAM! top 5 again, that quickly.

What about Z. Brown?

Or Manny Lawson? He was the only LB from last year that was playing hard. Now, it's like he's not even on the team anymore.

Re: Lawson, Ragland, Washington
I still can't believe that not one single pick was spent on the O line.
-
Re: Lawson, Ragland, Washington
Not too sure Washington is such great shakes. Has a rep as a developmental guy who "plays in spurts".

Washington is pretty much the replacement of Kyle in a year. Just have to see how he develops. Remember Kyle was a 5th pick with not much expectation on him when he came to the Bills.
I still see them next year drafting a NT type of player. Right now this team has pass rushers from outside and very strong pass rushers from inside (Marcel, Kyle, Washington). Personally I believe the Ragland pick steered their DLine direction to the inside pass rushing specialist Washington. Ragland is big and has a nose for tackling ball carriers. But we are going to find out if he can still shed NFL guards/TEs like he does in regular basis in college (and he played behind a stout college run defending D line in Alabama).
One thing that I'm more excited about Ragland is his leadership (many termed Ray Lewis like). Think about it, who is the leader in Bills defense? Someone who urges on others in critical moments? A top defense always has that kind of guy(s). You may say Kyle who unfortunately is in his last legs of his career and has been injured far too often to be on the field. We just don't have that kind of a fiery guy since Takeo left town.

I just don't see that. Kyle has always had rep for nonstop motor playing beyond his skills and Adolphus "plays in spurts". Adolphus is not a nonstop motor guy. If he's the replacement for Kyle we're in trouble. Adolphus is going to have trouble replacing Corbin Bryant.

Manny is a much better fit in a 34. His best play in Buffalo was under Wrecks last season, and Pettine in 2013 when he started over Hughes.

agreed. He just needs to be the qb of the d. They trade up so often and reach, it was nice that they did the smart thing. Time will tell if it works out. I think it should

Re: Lawson, Ragland, Washington
After Friday was done, I viewed Saturday as a bonus. These 3 were all strong picks who can play right away. Very happy.

And yet Whaley sees him as a starter. You need to call him and set him straight.
Convinced that if we drafted the Alabama ball boy, you and Yard would say it's the best pick in the draft. Your bias is becoming a little too obvious. LOL.

To be fair, I watched every Bama game last season and the ballboy has a really high motor and quick twitch.
To be serious where have I been critical about the pick?

Come on Mace, if you believe replacement is meant talent for talent, every GM in this world is a failure to replace an established player, let alone pro-ball HOF players.
Of course replacements in sports meant position wise.

I've been right more than enough through drafts where it doesn't bother me if people laugh and think I'm wrong. I am from time to time. I'm happy if I am because it means something good for the team.
Will tell you this though, I'll laugh right in your figurative face if I'm not. I have a pretty good memory for such. You're more than welcome to laugh in mine after it plays out, I won't be shy in admitting what I thought when he was drafted in threads about him, and I'll be calling you Adolphus if he doesn't.
I doubt you agree with everything Whaley "sees", in fact I know you don't. So maybe you should give him a call to set him straight too, you think ?
There weren't any Bama guys there. Who was ? Andrew Billings, high motor guy. Said I thought he should have been the guy. So how you figure that's an obvious Bama bias ? It's not. It's better-player bias, in my opinion, opinions sort of being the point here, atm, yes ?

Ragland has alligator arms and is only slightly faster.

Re: Lawson, Ragland, Washington
BTW, who was that over the hill lb from 6 or 7 years ago that could run down that Jets qb? He was roasted for months.

Well, my thought was replacement for high motor overachiever meant getting another high motor overachiever, and that's the sense I got to the post I replied to.
I'm not going to gripe about it anymore, it is what it is and I'll hope for the best like most everyone else. I can't take back my opinion and won't because I still believe it. I'll be fine with looking stupid down the road if I'm wrong. And believe me, I want to be wrong.
I'm as tired of the flailing around as anyone, I'm tired of being overly optimistic about QB's and overly pessimistic about other positions. I'm tired of speculating. I want another damn winning team with upside. If players I'm not fond of add to it, I'm all in on them, but if they aren't, I can't pretend enthusiasm anymore after all these years for what I've been seeing for too many of them. I look forward to people laughing at me if I'm wrong. I won't feel really good about it if I'm not. And mostly I never do point out who I debated with about anything anyway. It's all about what you believe when you believe it and that's what the boards are for in saying so.

Slow is probaly not how the opposition would describe it when Ragland lowers the boom on them.

Can he even get to them at this level...I remember in the semi game he knocked off Jalin Marshall's helmet but Zeke Elliott made him look absolutely silly. Not an 'SEC speed' guy that is for sure.

OSU fans are among the biggest idiots in college sports. Case in point here. We'll see if Washington tops the McCargo line. Because McCargo also came out of college with such plaudits.

I'm definitely way more biased...Class of 2011 Go Bucks!!! Full disclosure I will only be going to a couple games this year to root on my Buckeyes as downtime between Ohio State games!!!!!
