If Gailey stays, hire Chris Ault for OC?
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...d-head-to-nfl/
Gailey is probably gone so the point MAY BE moot. But, if he stays, this guy runs a very similar scheme. Many have ridiculed Gailey for trying to wear both hats.
Please stay on topic. I realize most want Gailey gone. This topic is only in the event that he stays. Save us the "Doesn't matter Gailey is gone" comments.

Like you said, no point in discussing this because Chan will be gone.

Re: If Gailey stays, hire Chris Ault for OC?
Ault has retired, I highly doubt he has any interest in coming to the NFL asap. At most he'd work as an advisor to help team implement the pistol, but I can't see him becoming a full fledged coach.
Also there is no way Gailey gives up play calling.

Why bother making this thread when you know damn well Gailey is gone. You're clinging to something that isn't there.

Re: If Gailey stays, hire Chris Ault for OC?
Actually, I think it might be relevant even if Chan is gone. Once concern I always have when making a change at head coach is the transition time in your offensive and defensive schemes. I personally don't mind the schemes Buffalo is running on offense or defense, though I wouldn't mind a little more aggressiveness on defense. I don't think the scheme has been the problem at all. It gives opponents fits trying to cover the run, especially when you've got a dynamic running back like Spiller. If you had a QB that was more accurate than Fitzpatrick, the passing game would be a bear to try and shut down too. If Buffalo dumps Chan Gailey, I wouldn't mind hiring an offensive coordianator a bit who is comfortable running a similar scheme. That said, Buffalo is probably not going to find a quality head coaching candidate who is going to be comfortable running Chan's version of a spread, so it's probably not going to happen.

I would have a hard time believing Gailey would kick Modkins to the curb (even though he may still hold the title OC by name only), and also don't believe that Chan thinks their are any problems with the scheme or his play-calling.

Splitting hairs really, he's already 66. Not many jobs or opportunities out there.

I hope you're right for your sake.
This thread has merit because it isn't a given that he's gone. I think it's likely but not a given.

Re: If Gailey stays, hire Chris Ault for OC?
1 of 2 things will happen in respect to Gailey, either Nix will be forced to fire him, or he will be given the opportunity to stay on as HC for a price. That price would be a major shake up of his staff. He is going to have to fire a few staff members, hire new coaches, etc. This is what I think will happen. What I would like to happen is far different though. lol

It's a good theory but truth is most coaches hire or work with coaches they've worked with before and as far as I know Ault has no ties to Gailey. Yet the idea that because he's run a spread/pistol type offenses makes logical sense of why he could end up here etc but the reality is not likely.

I hope so for my sanity. I'm going to be at the game tomorrow cheering for the Jets.

Re: If Gailey stays, hire Chris Ault for OC?
The simple question I would have would be... Why?
You want to take playcalling from Gailey, let Modkins do it. Modkins has been here, knows the system, knows the personnel... Why hire a guy off the street?
Besides, Modkins is also the RB coach and was a RB himself... I'd about guarantee that he'd call more playes for Spiller than Gailey ever has. Gailey and Ault were both quarterbacks... Unless, of course, you want to see Fitz throw more than he already does...

Re: If Gailey stays, hire Chris Ault for OC?
I doubt that Gailey will remain here and if he somehow does, I doubt that he would turn over the play calling duties to anyone, he's stuck on stupid and seems reluctant to make any type of changes.
