Los Angeles Playas 2006 Rookie Draft Summary

    The Los Angeles Playas completed their second rookie draft today and hope to have similar success as they did last year in which 7 members of last years rookie class made this years team.
    <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

    1. Ernie Sims LB, we feel that this fast and aggressive LB can make an immediate impact on our team. He has a great nose for the ball and loves to hit people hard. Though LB is really not a need, we felt he was just too good to pass up at the point we drafted.

    2.Jake Plummer QB, we traded this pick for a QB who will be are starter for the next few years. We expect great things from Jake this year and believe he can lead this offense to a championship.

    4A. Tavaris Jackson QB, in our opinion he has the strongest arm and is the most athletic QB in the draft he will have a year or 2 to develop behind our starter.

    4B. Derek Hagan WR, he is a tall WR with great hands and has some deceptive speed we see him very similar to Rod Smith who though he hasn’t slowed down yet we expect him to soon.

    5A. Jason Spitz C, he is an athletic C in our determination and we are looking forward to him taking over our backup C position and hopefully in a few years replace our starter.

    5B. Brian Calhoun RB, we believe this guy is going to be special, he could be a great RB at the pro level and has great agility, quickness and hands to be a lethal threat from the RB position for years to come.

    5C. Dominique Byrd TE, we wanted some youth at the TE position and we feel this guy has great hands, runs well and blocks well. We look towards him developing into a solid starter.

    6A. Willie Reid WR, with the awful news we received on Jerome Mathis today we decided to go after one of the most explosive return men in the draft we feel with his speed and moves he will make an impact on special teams and maybe even as a WR down the road.

    6B. Leon Washington RB , you can never have enough playmakers with speed and this guy has tons of speed, we felt we have no huge holes to fill this year so lets get some guys who can help on special teams and may make an impact a year or 2 down the road.

    6C. Skyler Green WR , another explosive return man and more insurance in case Jerome Mathis cant play next year. We really think that this maybe a steal for us we could have 2 great young return man and see Skyler with his competitive attitude becoming a starting WR down the road.

    The Playas now will begin preparing for the regular season, a season they are saying will be a failure without a championship. With the offseason almost complete only time will tell if these are true Playas fo real!!!!!
