    Cowart to be FA

    http://espn.go.com/nfl/columns/clayt...n/1511468.html

[The Jets] don't plan to exercise a $3.5 million option on linebacker Sam Cowart unless he renegotiates. If the Jets execute Cowart's option, he would have a six-year, $31 million deal. They want him to make less than $5 million a year.
I don't think I would want Cowart back but that means there is yet another solid LB on the market. Therefore driving the price down.

Goes to show you Donahoe knows what he's doing. Cowart isn't worth the money to kick in the next bonus, and we get London Fletcher out of it, and a great price.

It'll be nice if he's out of the AFC East.

i think td should offer him a 4 year 4 million dollar contract, just to piss him off.

Yeah, we did but he didn't like it because of the way it was structured. Overall it was a better deal than he settled for with the Jets so I'd say there are few of us really shedding tears over his departure. If he takes less to go elsewhere, he simply didn't want to be here.

Just builds more confidence in how TD handles the team.

I totally agree with you CP. Cowart started to show signs of his former self at the end of last season! Wherever this guy ends up, he will be a force to be reckoned with!! IMO, this guy could start over Fletcher any day of the week.

I might be interested in him if his price came down. He's obviously not worth more then 5 million a year.

Imagine that tandem! How do you think Cowart would do on the pass rush?

Cowart wouldn't come back if Buffalo was the only gig in town. JMO.

I'm not to sure. The Jets screwed him worse than Buffalo by not giving him that roster bonus. He would of made more money in Buffalo last year then he did with the Jets. Of course since he improved dramatically over the course of the season he may be in for a nice pay day. I could see minnesota going after him since they have a lot of money under the cap.
It sure seems like every year there is a lot of quality linebackers in FA.

Is there a reason why the Jets didn't exercise that option? By the way he played down the stretch, wasn't he worth it? He was a tackle machine the last third of the season. You'd think that would prove his injury wasn't a factor anymore.

    What am I missing?
