MINNEAPOLIS (AP) _ With contract negotiations still at an impasse, the Minnesota Vikings placed a franchise tag on tight end Jim Kleinsasser on Thursday, a team spokesman said.
The move means the Vikings must pay Kleinsasser the average salary of the top five tight ends, $2.29 million, in football for the 2003-04 season. Kleinsasser was one of the key players on a Vikings team that won its last three games after starting out with four straight losses.
He's gonna make LESS than Riemersma as a FRANCHISE player... *L*
