I hope I'm allowed to answer this - if not, I'm sure someone will delete it post haste. A "luxury" item is something to kind of comfort you while you're stranded. (Like a toothbrush, a book, something like that) :)

I had to laugh at those idiots tonight who couldn't catch a fish while standing right next to a pelican. All they had to do was reach out and break it's neck. I bet pelican stew is pretty good.
