    comeback player of the year

chad pennington won the 2006 award in a much wider margin than expected....

now if you were one of hte sports writers, what defines "coming back"

an injury..... moving to a new city..... coming out of retirement?

Chad Pennington overcame two surgeries to win AP Comeback Player of the Year on Wednesday.

Pennington's efforts earned him 27 votes in balloting by a nationwide panel of 50 sports writers and broadcasters who cover the NFL. He finished far ahead of two other quarterbacks, Drew Brees of New Orleans (8½) and Carson Palmer of Cincinnati (5½).

Garcia may have won had McNabb gone down sooner. Congrats to Chad though his arm will probably fall off next year

I try to follow the Jets because of my son, and I knew they were a better team that what most Bills fans saw in our rematch. Chad is a smart QB, and congrats to him for this honor. He just better be smarter than Brady this week, cuz I wanna see NE go down in flames.
I didn't come here to fight, I hate fighting. Life is way too short to spend it on fighting! Go fight with yourself, one of you will eventually win!

I think Palmer should have had more votes.

To me, a comeback player would be anyone who had a ****ty season one year for any reason- age, new team, injury- that comes back to have a great season the next year.

Pennington was the quintessential comeback player- he played a few ****ty games in 05 and was injured for most of the year. People doubted if he would ever play again at all, and yet he turned out to have the Jets completely overachieving and he played well all year. Pennington is the offensive version of Zach Thomas- he lacks the ideal physical characteristics for his position, but makes up for it with smarts and determination. Despite his lack of arm strength, he's frustrating to play against because his head's always in the game and he doesn't give the D a lot of opportunities.

Congrats to him- he deserves the award.

Is there a Jet's site that you can post this on. I think Pennington is one hit away from retirement so enjoy it now.
