    Re: Free Agency Competiton

The Skins re-signed Betts last year so I doubt he'll be a cap casualty, but there will most likely be at least a handful of them from the Skins.

But we need more info then just available cap space- we need to know which of these teams have scrubs that count $3+ million against the cap, like Mike Williams for us last year.

So someone explain to me again how we can't outbid for players? 2nd most cap room of any team and this is an issue why?

Its not a matter of outbidding its a matter of simple economics.

When you have 20 teams all near or above 20 mil in cap space there are a lot of hands in the pie. I have no doubt we will be aggressive and bid high for FA's we target.

So the reality is, those saying 'WE CANT BID' are 100% wrong. We can bid for and just about out bid anyone for a FA or two we wanted. Now should we is another issue. I am just sick of hearing 'we can't'.

I don't know if it's that we can't BID or that we can't WIN the bidding war. Marv can offer Lance Briggs $30 million over 5 years but who's to say Chicago won't offer him $31 million or a team that actually contended last year won't match our offer? I suspect Marv won't sit back- he'll make some aggressive offers- but whether or not they're accepted isn't up to him.

You have to look at it as a sliding scale. The Cap # will continue to increase so not only do we start out ahead of everyone else but the excat contract we sign this year would cost us more to sign next year. There is absolutely no reason not to overbid everyone else. The contract that Winfield signed with Minnesota looks like a dud now!

If there was ever a year to sign players this is it!

I think it might be coming out as "we can't" because so many are contending that Wilson won't pay. Since they think "Ralph won't" then it becomes "Marv can't" outbid.
My thinking is that the trust factor plays huge when Marv goes after someone and consequently, Ralph will not get in his way.
                Who knows, really?

That is the check that ralph gets from the NFL (for 2007) $170,312,500.00 (this is for players salaries and operating expenses) , This does not include any revenue generated by the team I.E. gate sales, luxury boxes, concessions, parking etc... So Ralphy is making some coin, I will not feel sorry him and he needs to spend it! The reason he wants revenue sharing is because Buffalo only make 40 million on gate sales parking etc... and not 86 million like the patsy! Poor ralph is only making like 60 million a year!

Which is not bad for a 25,000 dollar investment!

If Marv doesn't spend some money in this offseason there are going to be some very angry fans. I'm not asking him to act like Daniel Snyder but I expect 2, maybe 3, impact players to come out of free agency. Considering we went 7-9 last season, just resriging Nate wouldn't be near enough anyway.
