First vote of the '07 offseason - Shall we expand?

    Shall we expand?

We are returning all but one owner. There are 2 that would like to join the league. We could get to 22 if we wanted to. What say you?

Yeah. Given how this place has been a hotbed of activity this offseason, I think we should go to 24. Why stop there? Let's go right to 32 teams.

I think we need to build steam with what we have.
I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?"
"Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet.
You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times."
    It was all
true what he was saying. And yet, I thought something is brewing inside the head of this Coach.
He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can
mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.

I agree. Eb was right about most of us practically having all-star teams. It's time to dilute the talent pool.

i voted yes to expand to 24 if we have participating bodies to do so.if we have 2 who want to join,i have no problems with just 22.do we have Ally's replacement yet?if we expand, what steps do the current owners have to take?is it anything similar to expansion in the NFL?i'd like to see us get to 32 teams in a few years.

Lacking the understanding of sarcasm, but yes, it's alive. Barely.

Re: First vote of the '07 offseason - Shall we expand?

I think expanding now after we opened up the trading period is unfair, if we had known we could only protect a certain amount of players for an expansion draft Im sure some trades would have not been made and at this point would be unfair to the owners who have made trades

    I don't disagree.

Of course, I also think that trading before the ratings came out is fairly stupid.
"'Clean up your room.', 'Stand up straight.', 'Pick up your feet.', 'Take it like a man.', 'Be nice to your sister.', 'Don't mix beer and wine, ever.'. Oh yeah, 'Don't drive on the railroad track.'"

"Eh, Phil. That's one I happen to agree with."

Risky at some positions yes but not neccesarily stupid, I like to make trades before the rankings come out more to bring a sense of intrigue about for myself before the rankings come out and also as a test of my knowledge of Football to see how I made out.

You win some and lose some but no risk no reward

a lot of the trades i made were because my decent players were stacked at the same positions and i needed draft picks for the future of this team.i took over a team that didn't have a 1st,2nd,and 3rd round draft pick.(waited until the 65th pick)it put me in a situation where i'm short of being an expansion team myself.that's one of the disadvantages of taking over a team somebody had previously had.however,i have 10 draft picks coming up this year and 10 next year.

Maybe the rest of you have a talented team. That's cause a few of us don't. I didn't draft this team originally, but I will slowly get it talented. As long as I have drafts like last year.

It doesn't matter to me if we expand or not. I took over a team but built it up pretty talented within a year.

I don't mind expanding because that way the great owners would shine and bad owners couldn't get by because of the lack of teams.

Eb, I should clarifiy, I voted no, but if you can find 6 people who will be active, then I'd change my vote to yes. (2 to replace current owners, and 4 for the new teams). I see no point in expanding if all the teams aren't going to be active.

My thoughts exactly. It's hard to keep 20 active owners right now. It would suck to expand 4 more teams and a bunch of us have to give up good players we want just for them 4 teams to bail out after 1 year. Then we're stuck trying to find 4 more owners to take over the teams. Then if all of them don't stay it's a battle you can't win.
