The Answer's official draft grade
The Answer was very busy over the weekend, deeply entrenched in all the happenings around the league and working closesly with his inside sources. But have no fear - The Answer is back and ready to give his no holds barred draft grades so let's start at the beginning:
Round 1 - Marshawn Lynch - Grade: A
The more The Answer thinks about it, The more he loves this move and realizes that AP was a pipe dream anyway. The Answer was a litte concerned over alleged character issues, but this guy is going to be a stud and might just be the better RB when it's all said and done. He can run, block, catch, demolish defenders, drive injury carts, you name it - Marshall Faulk reborn? In Fairchild's system, behind a revamped line he may just flourish. Only concern is can he play in the cold weather and will his mother like Buffalo? Stay tuned.....
Round 2 - Paul Posluszny - Grade: D+
Ok - The Answer's sources on this one were wrong, but at least we didn't grab him at #12. The Answer was right about him not being a 1st rounder though and you have to wonder how far he would have tumbled (The Answer believes he would have fallen to our original pick in the 2nd anyway). The biggest problem The Answer has with this pick is that we wasted a valuable 3rd round pick AGAIN. So we basically gave away McGahee for free when you think about it. Regardless The Answer promises to keep an open mind and keep the Pos bashing to a minimum until he proves to be a bust in training camp or show something. The Answer admits though - there's something about this guy that kinda makes you want to root for him. Hard nosed, blue collar type with gauze stuffed up his nose and all.
Round 3 - Trent Edwards - Grade: C-
The Answer understands the whole 'value thing' but we are by no means a team that has the 'best player available' mentality given the holes that still need to be addressed. Also after years of QB controversies and divided fan bases, it would have been nice to go at least one year without it. Drafting Edwards was a bold move to say the least and this guy does have stud written all over him. Stay tuned - and JP time to really step up your game now with Edwards on board. So much for the faith in Nall Ball too.....
Round 4 - Dwayne Wright - Grade: C
Really a baffling move considering we drafted Lynch in the 1st and still have the A-Train and his little buddy Suck Williams on the roster. This just further fuels The Answer's 'Offense first' mentality in 2007. Wright probably figures to be a special teams stud right off the bat though.
Round 6 - John Wendling - Grade: B+
The Answer likes this moves for a variety of reasons, especially given Wendling athletism and versatility. He may very well be a 'tweaker' and you have to wonder if they have plans for him to play LB or even Corner. Should be another solid special teams stud out of the gate.
Round 7 - Derek Schouman - Grade: B-
Boise State players can ball - and this is another versatile player that can catch footballs, block, etc. If he shows something early than say goodbye to Kevin Everett.
Round 7 - C.J. Ah You - Grade: C
The Answer is somewhat intrigued by this pick, but still a little disappointed we didn't grab a CB or LB. However this kid does come from Oklahoma and could be a player. Too early to tell though if he's nothing more than camp fodder, developmental project, or will make the roster immediately....
In conclusion The Answer clearly sees what Marv and company were thinking this weekend and that's that they know the defense isn't going to be a top 10 unit and tail off somewhat, so they are going to have to put up a lot of points to compensate for that in 2007 - 3 offensive players in the first 4 rounds clearly illustrate that. But don't be surprised if we pick up a few veterans later on for depth. The Answer imagines there will be several 'name' players available, particulary at LB and DB to pick up.
