Edmonton's first SC winning season with Wayne G.

They won the President's trophy as well and just slid by Calgary in the semis to make the finals and eventually win the SC. Since Edmonton beat Calgary by 23 wins during the regualr season it's looked to be an easy series, history told a different story.

My point here is you have a series in which you wake up every year to realize that nothing is given to you and you have to work for it all playoff long. When we get by Ottawa, whoever we play is going to see a fire that will be extinguished by no one, bank on it.

You're doing it again Skoob- two different teams, in a different year when the league had different rules, and one of the teams had the greatest player in NHL history.

NONE of this has anything to do with how the Senators match up with the Sabres- your confidence was shaken after that debacle last night and you're grasping at straws to restore it.

When was it determined that Edmonton had alot of great players?? Was it before or after winning all those cups?? It takes years after to figure it out, you'll see.

imo the more important point is the year prior the oilers also had a fantastic season filling the net with pucks yet their high powered attack went cold and they got knocked out of the playoffs - it was the finals i believe and they got beat baad too

they had to learn their lesson on how to play as the top dog. they decided to tone town their prime time fast break offense and play with more desperation

the sabres clearly havent learned that lesson all season long. its a process they might have to go through and usually by the time a team truly internalizes that realization its too late

i sure hope not and they certainly can still win this series but they wouldnt be the first first-time top dog team that fell apart under that expectation
