Simeon Rice could sign with Denver

Rice is apparently flew into Denver to visit today, and could sign there. It makes some sense, as he would have a chance to start there with Ebenezer Ekuban being lost for the year to injury. Currently, Elvis Dumervil is pegged to start, but he is an undersized pass-rush specialist.

    LINK

St. Louis is also very interested in Rice.

maybe Buffalo should start showing some interest to help with our depth and keep us from facing him on opening day....if we could sign him after week 1 that would be amazing so we wouldn't have to guarantee his contract....i think that could be what st. louis and denver do

Broncos agree to terms with free agent Simeon Rice

Free-agent defensive end Simeon Rice, one of the few potential impact players remaining in free agency and a guy who enters 2007 as the second-leading active sacker in the league, reached a contract agreement with the Denver Broncos on Monday evening.

Rice, 33, arrived in Denver on Sunday, dined that evening with team officials, and then chose the Broncos' contract offer over the proposal the St. Louis Rams submitted.

According to ESPN.com's John Clayton, Rice's deal with the Broncos is for one year and $3 million. He accepted the terms once the Broncos decided to guarantee the contract. Along with the $3 million, the Broncos gave him the chance to make another $1 million through performance-based incentives.

At least they've learned to stop signing ex-Browns defensive lineman. And have learned to get rid of a few of them.

NFL.com's Adam Schefter has the contract details:

    1 Yr/$3m. $820K Base Salary with $2.18M Signing Bonus.

He can earn incentives, which Shefter outlines:

Quote Originally Posted by Adam Schefter

The sack incentives give Rice the chance to earn up to another million, though he never has had more than 15.5 sacks in a season.

same article as the reche caldwell one........

    http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=090...o&confirm=true

Though Rice is coming off a significant shoulder injury and though some teams said the defensive end would not be healthy enough to start the season, the Broncos plan to play him Sunday at Buffalo against the Bills. Denver needs Rice –- badly. Its starting defensive ends are John Engleberger and Elvis Dumervil. Their backups are first-round pick Jarvis Moss and second-round pick Tim Crowder, who has been hobbled this summer with a sprained ankle.
Rice will play, and he will have a chance to start reaching some of the incentives the Broncos laid out for him in their one-year, $3 million deal that included a $2.18 million signing bonus and an $820,000 base salary.
