Scouts Inc.: Both teams are in catch-up mode after slow starts put them behind the division-leading Patriots. The Jets were a playoff team in 2006 and had hopes of getting past the first round this year, but after a 1-2 start they are in danger of falling into a hole too deep to climb out of. Buffalo, meanwhile, was hopping to improve to at least .500 club after going 7-9 last year but an 0-3 start makes the playoffs a nearly impossible dream. They still need to show improvement, though, to save head coach Dick Jauron's job
