Trent Edwards + A suddenly stout defense = The real start of the season

First let The Answer preface this by saying he still thinks we aren't a playoff team. Still way too many injuries to overcome and a very difficult schedule still ahead. And The Answer believes that most 'realististic' Bills fans had to expect no better than a 1-2 start given the schedule's oppening 3 games. We should have beat Denver, but losses at Pit and NE were expected. What wasn't expected was Losmans disappointing play and all of the injuries on defense.

Now with that said fast forward to the beginning of The Young Gun era - this kid delivered big time against a playoff team from last year. Now The Answer expects a lot of the Losman homers to attack this immediatley and tell The Answer that the Jets are a horrible team as well, and that Losman would have had the same success against them - but the fact of the matter is that they are a pro team just like us. And Edwards did a lot of things yesterday that Losman simply isn't capable of doing given his limited football abilities at the pro level. With that said,The Answer also would like to add a few more monnikers to the rookies repetoire:

Trent "The Surgeon" Edwards - precision and poise were scary.

Trent "The Assassin" Edwards - quick release and delivery a beautiful ball into coverage.

Bottom Line - this kid isn't a flash in the pan, and he isn't playing like a rookie 3rd round pick - he's the franchise QB we've all waited for and 09/23/07 may very well be remembed as 'Vince Wolfork" day to Bills fans, kind of how 'Mo Lewis' day began something special in New England when Drew Bledsoe was injured.

Now moving on to the defense - they looked solid yesterday and The Answer truly believes we have something in Jabari Greer - he's always looked great in the preseason, but if we have any chance to go anywhere this year he's going to be a key reason why. The Answer can live with giving up 400 yards a game, but as long as we are holding teams to 20 points or less that is the key to having a chance - but this has to happen on the road as well, not just at home like it has in two contests at the ralph.

In conclusion a week from today will be the true measuring stick for this football team. If Edwards comes out on national television and leads to an upset win over what might be the best team in the NFL right now expect the playoff talk to start again......

you call that stout? We got shredded in yards yet again.

But, this is the way it was supposed to work all along- the O carrying the D. So, we'll see what happens.

The Cowboys aren't the best team in the NFL.

The Cowboys have a legitimate shot a Super Bowl contention.

True but they're not the best team in the NFL, I'd rank them maybe in the top 5-10. The teams they have played so far have played like bottomfeeders this year.

Yes and we will continue to get shredded - especially by the Cowboys, and by most teams the rest of the season.

The point is if we can play like we did against Denver and NY we are always going to be in games.

Also yesterday you can argue we basically held the jets to 7 points through 3 and a half quarters - which is pretty impressive given how their offense has been playing so far this season.

It depends on your definition of shredded. 346 total yards, and only 60 on the ground is not shredded.

And you disagree with many people on this one - Some think points are more important than yards. You think yards are more important than points.

Regardless, the Jets are a bad team. No fair evaluation can me made from this ga,e

as usual the Answer is incomplete and mostly incorrect. No credit.

I can imagine it being very frustrating and demoralizing for our D to keep us in games (for a while anyway) only to have JP misfire into a 3-and-out over and over. I think Trent gives the rest of the team some confidence and incentive to keep plugging away. Playoffs? Not bloody likely, but I think you'll see the Bills play hard.
