Packers agreed to a five-year contract extension with head coach Mike McCarthy.
The deal is worth about $20 million and will be finalized this weekend. It makes McCarthy one of the higher paid coaches in the NFL. GM Ted Thompson took a risk when he hired McCarthy to succeed Mike Sherman in 2006, but it's paid off in a major way. McCarthy has brilliantly handled Brett Favre's annual situation in combination with a youthful roster. He finished second behind only Bill Belichick in voting for 2007 NFL Coach of the Year.
