Re: It's gotta suck to be Tiki Barber today
suckaI remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?"
"Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet.
You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times."
It was all true what he was saying. And yet, I thought something is brewing inside the head of this Coach.
He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.

The guy can coach, and he took a lot of heat.
It's hardly coincidence that every team he coaches gets good real fast. At BC, they went from bottom dweller to beating #1 Notre Dame and finishing 12th in 1993.
At Jacksonville, he won 49 games in their 1st 5 seasons the league, including 2 AFC Championship game appearances. After Wayne Weaver bailed on him and left him struggling, he was fired.
I get a kick out of the fact both Tiki Barber (retired) and Shockey (hurt and overrrated) ripped him and they contributed zilch to their SB win. Their talk means nothing.
Great game day coach and his D is always good.Anonymity is an abused privilege, abused most by people who mistake vitriol for wisdom and cynicism for wit
