For all the education and practice each of us undergoes, the achievment of mastery is ultimately the outcome of a personal quest for understanding.
Some dope not working for Parcells, I'm guessing.
Anonymity is an abused privilege, abused most by people who mistake vitriol for wisdom and cynicism for wit
and who gives a ****. He would not have had those numbers for his prior team and they got a 2nd and a 7th for him both of who are on the roster and one is the starting center
The same guy who drafted Ginn and Beck, and traded Chambers to the Chargers?
I'm glad we were too cheap to hire THAT guy.
Should have known, way back in 1960 when we drafted Richie Lucas Number 1, that this would be a long, hard ride. But who could have known it would be THIS bad?
You guys really need to worry more about your own organization
So instead of GIVING AWAY draft picks like candy at Halloween, the team started to acquire draft picks by making tough decisions and trading players they'd probably like to keep. When a team has a lot of holes, you need all of the picks you can get.
Plus the other thing that everyone forgets is the San Diego Chargers signed Wes Welker as an undrafted free agent then cut him, allowing the Dolphins to sign him and ultimately receive a 2nd round pick (our starting center, Samson Satele) and a 7th round pick by trading a very superb slot receiver to the Patriots.
Welker deserves the accolades, but I think a lot of players would excell playing with Randy Moss, Tom Brady and co. IMO.
I was a little surprised to not see him returning kicks and punts yesterday.
He was returning punts, Mikey.Originally Posted by Mikey82

Trading him was an absolutely foolish move by Miami and shouldn't be defended. You can try to degrade the guy because he played on a great offense with a great QB, but so didn't a lot of other great WR. Samson Satele would have to turn into Dwight Stephenson to justify that trade. Chalk it up to a poor decision and move on.
Just because the guy is small and not a burner doesn't mean his production can't be ignored. There are a lot of guys who look the part a lot more than him that can't do what he does in a game.
My favorite stat on Welker's season comes courtesy of Peter King:
Jerry Rice's best season (1995):
122 receptions regular season + 11 receptions postseason = 133 receptions
Wes Welker this year:
112 receptions regular season + 27 receptions postseason = 139 receptions
That Rice guy probably was just a product of that great SF offense and Joe Montana, right?
Please....
Welker is a catching machine.
You think you're hot **** in a champagne glass, but you're really cold diarrhea in a Dixie cup!

And for the record, I loved Welker and was sorry to see him go but it was the right move. I would never degrade what he did. He had a great season with a great QB throwing him the ball and a great receiver on the outside. If you honestly think he would have put up those numbers for the Fins, then you truly have no clue
If the Pats did win, WW should have been the MVP hands-down.

No, you have no clue. The fact is he had a great season, end of story. Jerry Rice played for great teams, that doesn't diminish his accomplishments. He led the NFL in receptions and yards-after-catch, for crying out loud. 65 of his receptions when for first downs, 8th in the NFL. He made Brady and Moss better as much as they made him better.Originally Posted by LtFinFan66
He was one of Miami's best players on offense the year prior, despite being under-utilized. He led them in receptions, despite not playing as many snaps as Chambers, Booker and Randy McMichael. They got rid of him, and made a division opponent a lot better in the process. Stupid trade. There is no other way to describe it. Your whistling into the wind if you think otherwise, it is a fact. He even is a great value, as he has far out-performed the contract has signed.
I don't know if you realize this, but the point is for teams to keep their good players.
While I do agree that welker would not have the same number in Miami, it's not because of him, it is because of the lack of QB in Miami. It was a bad decision to trade him especially to a division rival who already had too many weapons. Welker was inexpensive and a hard worker plus his attitude is what our team needs, Satele is nice, but it is still a wait and see on him.

I have nothing to base their absolute desire to do whatever it would take to get him, but I think they were lucky to get compensation for him. Who knows if Welker would've been important enough for the posion pill treatment.

I wanted to re-visit this thread.
Wes Welker is currently leading the NFL in receptions with 109, with a 4 reception lead over Andre Johnson. No NFL WR has more receptions than Welker in the last 2 seasons and he has a good shot at leading the NFL in that category for the second straight season, despite playing with a different QB this year. He leads the NFL in Yards-after-Catch. He just made his first Pro Bowl.
Since the Patriots signed Welker, he has 221 catches for 2,314 Yds (10.5 YPR) and 11 TDs. In that same time period, no Miami player has had even 60 receptions or 800 yards in a season.
I think we can put to bed the notion that Welker is "just a slot receiver" or that the trade wasn't completely lopsided. Say what you want about Sampson Satele, but he is no Wes Welker.
Welker is ridiculous. He just keeps producing no matter what. I personally can't stand the guy, but only because Buffalo is one of the many teams he dominates.
Samson Satele, and you're 100% right. I can't blame the Dolphins for not wanting to put up that money for Welker, and hindsight is 20/20, but it was a great pickup by the Patriots. Chad Pennington would love to have Welker right now.Originally Posted by NE39
Welker is the most underrated WR in the NFL without a question.
