    One of the faces of the Miami Dolphins is no longer with the organization.



    Miami has informed perennial Pro Bowl linebacker Zach Thomas they will release him Thursday, FOXSports.com has learned.
    Thomas, like the rest of the Dolphins, suffered through a miserable 2007 season. He suffered a concussion on the field and injuries in a car accident that limited his play.
    After missing several games, the Dolphins finished Thomas' season for him when they placed him on injured reserve in December.
    Thomas instantly became a fan favorite his rookie year and went on to become one of the league's most well-known tackling machines.
    In the last couple of months, Thomas has told FOXSports.com he thought his release was imminent due to his salary. However, Thomas also said that he is not ready to hang up the cleats. Thomas played in just five games in 2007, recording 52 tackles and one sack. The Dolphins finished the season with a 1-15 record.

                I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?"
                "Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet.
                You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times."
                It was all                 true what he was saying. And yet, I thought something is brewing inside the head of this Coach.
                He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can                 mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.

                    No one thinks we should sign him? (I don't, either.)
                    Should have known, way back in 1960 when we drafted Richie Lucas Number 1, that this would be a long, hard ride. But who could have known it would be THIS bad?

                            I hope he doesn't land in the AFCEast, ESPECIALLY not with the Patriots. It makes me ill seeing former players thrive there. I can almost hear the machine sew up his name on the Pats jersey as we speak, ugh.



                            I'm not surprised by the move at all. Unfortunately in today's NFL, long-time players will probably never retire with the team that drafted them. After Marino retired, it's been Zach and JT. Thanks to Zach for playing well beyond what the "draftniks" expected and for knocking fools out (see McGahee.) He will be missed (yeesh sounds like he's dying, lol.)

                            From reading other boards (thanks Philter), it seems like the Dolphins may be 40 million under the cap now. With a a bunch of drafpicks (especially 1st day picks) it's might be a very interesting offseason!

                              The move saved Miami just under $3 million in cap space. Thomas finishes his 11-year Dolphins career with 982 tackles. If he can pass a physical, he'll attract teams like the Patriots, Saints, and Broncos. Thomas, 35 in September, is nearing the end of the line but still fills hard against the run.
