  • A Specialist Free Agent

With all the players being raised in Free Agency talk the one position that has not been mentioned as potential need is:

    Long Snapper.

Even having one botched snap is one too many and at the moment these duties are carried out by Ryan Neill, a not very good Defensive End.

If we are going to use up a roster spot, shouldn't it be for one who is actually good?

I see the Steelers currently have two under contract, and are likely to carry only one:

    Jared Retkofsky
    Greg Warren

As both have snapped in cold weather, surely it makes sense to bring one in.

If we have the best punter in the league, lets guarantee he doesn't have to handle bad snaps.

The truth is, they ****ed up when they let Mike Schneck go. He was a very good LS and him leaving definitely hurt Brian Moorman this year as he was not comfortable with the snaps from Neill. Oh, plus Ryan Neill sucks as a DE.

I agree. Neill should've been cut right after the season ended.

LS isn't a huge priority just because of the nature of the position relative to the marketplace, but it is a spot that needs to be upgraded and has been largely overlooked up to this point.

Is not a position that a lot of people think about, especially when you have as many needs as we do, but I think that this is also a need. I think it is pretty clear that Moorman suffered as a result of Neill's departure. Not a bad idea at all to bring in a good LS.

For me, a couple of botched snaps can make the difference in a close game, and that can make the difference between the play offs or not.

I hate it when the team carries loads of special teamers who don't contribute much in other roles, but this is the one position I do think you cannot afford not to have a specific role player.
