I'm pretty pissed off right now. Quite a few people think that Johnson wasn't **** but he was better than what we had in Price and I felt he could be a nice productive fit for us. Instead we can rely on a rookie WR to pull miracles out of his ass to get us by at the #2 WR position. We can't bank on picking a productive starter in the draft every year. Ain't gonna happen. I usually don't rant on this much but we haven't done dick so far for our offense and the O needed more help than the D did this off season. I'm happy with the defensive moves and yes to an extent they will help the offense but we NEED a friggin #2 productive FA WR and a solid pass recieving FA TE and a WR and TE in the draft.

Re: Bryant Johnson signs.. With SF

But, I definitely agree with the Bills not being willing to give B.Johnson a 5-7 year deal at $ 5 million per, especially with the kind of "up-front" bonus money that would have had to go with it. Johnson hasn't proven that he is worth that kind of money and it would only serve to make it more difficult for the team to negotiate a contract extension with Lee Evans--which is going to be expensive enough with the kind of deal that L.Fitzgerald got from Arizona.

To my way of thinking, B.Johnson still has to prove that he is a legit # 2 WR. Lee Evans is at least that and, with a good QB and OC, has what it takes to be a legit # 1 WR, if not a star # 1 WR. If I have to choose between them, I take Evans every time.
This is a pretty good post. Here's an alternate thought, however. Let's assume for just a moment that BJ's self-image isn't that far off; like nearly a bazillion WRs that for whatever reason "suddenly" bloom and go from 45-50 to 65-85 catches, he makes that move next year. I really don't see this out of the range of possibilities; and there are certainly plenty of "average" WRs doing this.

And let's assume that the Bills have signed him to a 5 year deal at 5.5 per. Turns out that we now have a pretty good deal at WR, don't we?

Yeah ... a lot of what-ifs and at this point even I don't care that much about BJ (he can talk about team all he wants; it's just BS). I don't believe we'll ever sign Lee to a long term contract that he'll be demanding. No WR is worth that.

It's a long-winded way of saying I certainly wouldn't let upsetting LE's from signing his potential replacement. Evans simply isn't good enough to dictate that kind of thing.

Thumbs down Re: Bryant Johnson signs.. With SF

I hate how people act like it was our fault he didn't sign here...We made him an offer, but he rejected it....What else are we supposed to do? It's not like we didn't at least tried to get him. I don't blame Buffalo at all for not signing him to that 1 year he wanted, I mean what, we're supposed to all of a sudden change our philosophy for a mediocre player?....

And now that we won't be signing a WR from FA anymore, there's no excuse to not get a long term extension done with Evans. I want to see that next week ******* it.

Have you actually paid attention to FA?

    Stroud. Johnson. Mitchell.

The cheapness argument is a senseless one.

So Johnson is better than Price? So what?

You do not sign players just because they are better. You do not over spend on a player out of desperation. If Johnson wanted over 4 million per in a long term deal, the Bills made the right move.

Calling us cheap is wrong, calling us football stupid at times and bad decision makers is perfectly accurate. I'm kind of tired of the cheap argument too. How anyone can be pissed off that we upgraded our defense with two proven players blow my mind.

I agree we can discuss how good the moves are and there are questions there.

The cheapness thing is stupid beyond beleif.

What I find funny is the "small market teams" like Buffalo and Cleveland have been the biggest spenders by a long shot the past two off-seasons. Dallas still hasn't signed one free-agent to date, maybe we should call Jerry Jones cheap too.

Good post, Miyagi! Seeing how they didn't spend the money on a FA receiver, now there is no excuse for a Lee Evans deal. He better get a new extension before the draft or I will be pissed!

EXACTLY! That would have been sweet. I wanted Porter, but the Bills weren't interested.
