    Buffalo Bills should trade for Shockey

    Shockey for Buffalo's first-round pick in the 2009 NFL college draft.

    Shockey suffered a broken leg in the 14th game of the 2007 regular season and the team went on to win Super Bowl XLII without him. He has been pouting and distancing himself from the team ever since.

    Shockey is an outspoken and fiery player. He'd bring enthusiasm, talent and star power to the Bills. He'd like to make at least 75 catches per season and Buffalo has been lacking a tight end like that for a long time.

    The Bills are going to be decent in 2008 and Shockey would make them better. It is reasonable to project that Buffalo's first-round pick in 2009 would be in the No. 15 to No. 18 range.

    I believe Shockey would be worth that price to the Bills this season.

    Well, I don't.

    I don't think I've ever agreed with one idea from Bob Matthews.

      That's just crazy talk.

      He'd be a disruptive infuence in the locker room, and could destroy a young QB.

        If Shockey could keep his mouth shut and not be a distraction, I think he could help us.

        But for a FIRST ROUND PICK? As NT said, insane.
        Should have known, way back in 1960 when we drafted Richie Lucas Number 1, that this would be a long, hard ride. But who could have known it would be THIS bad?

          Another problem would arise if he wants a new deal once traded.

          The Bills already have 3 players what want/deserve/need new deals. Why add a 4th?

              Dude is talented, but he carries too much baggage and isn't worth a first.

              I don't think it's coincidence that Manning started to perform better after Shockey was out of the line-up. The TE obviously isn't the sole factor, but he was part of it.

                As much as I would love to upgrade the TE position, and I love big names (I think they generate excitement to the city).. Even I wouldn't make this trade.

                I actually agree with Lecter. We have Peters, Evans and Crowell to lock up. We dont need a 4th contract problem.

                  There is no doubting Shockey's talent, he can have a dramatic impact in an offense. If healthy, he might be worth giving up a first round pick (assuming it isn't in the top-half of the round.

                  However, how can you justify giving up a 1st given the guys injury history? Shockey has been in the NFL 6 years and has never played a full season. Granted, he has come close, but even when he plays he is perpetually nursing some sort of injury. Those injuries add up, and as he gets older it is doubtful it will get better. The cumulative effect likely will effect his play at some point.

                  I think Shockey's attitude issues are overblown. The guy is a competitor and, while he has a big mouth, he produces. However, you can't justify giving up a 1st for the guy given the injury history/risk.

                        We don't need any more Miami trash.

                        Shockey is definitely better than any TE on our roster, but he's completely overrated. He's always injured and basically skates off one or two monster games a season. The rest of the time, he's either hurt or just ineffectual.

                        Plus, he's a loudmouth and would be a huge distraction if Trent struggles to get him the ball.

                        No thanks- definitely not for a first.

                          I think an unknown first is too much. Buffalo could be anywhere from in the top 10 to 25.

                          I would do it for a 2nd though.

                              I think the Bills should try to make a deal for our Second pick. No doubt. In fact, I think he could be the missing link. With him on this team, the Bills would have no excuses on offense.

                              Are there others I would rather have. Yes. Any available? No.
