SAN DIEGO -- San Diego Chargers quarterback Drew Brees had minor surgery to remove calcium deposits from his lower right leg and is expected to be held out of offseason workouts for four to six weeks.

Brees had the surgery Monday, but the team didn't announce it until Tuesday. Brees is wearing a protective boot on the leg.

Brees started all 16 games last year, when the Chargers finished 8-8. He threw for 3,284 yards and 17 touchdowns, with 16 interceptions.
