The Giants have agreed to trade their disgruntled tight end to the New Orleans Saints for a second-round pick and a fifth-round pick, FOXSports.com has learned. The deal is pending league approval, according to a league source. Shockey must also pass a physical.

The compensation is the same the Saints offered New York back in April prior and during to the draft ... and it was turned down.

The move comes one day after Jason Taylor was traded from Miami to New York's NFC East rivals in Washington. According to a report on SI.com, the Giants had held discussions about a three-team trade in which they would have ended up with Taylor, the Saints would have landed Shockey and the Dolphins would have received a pair of draft picks.

The emergence of rookie Kevin Boss during the Giants' improbable Super Bowl run — a stretch Shockey missed due to a broken leg — made Shockey expendable. Boss started six games after Shockey's injury (two regular season and all four during the Giants' postseason run), making nine catches for 140 yards and a TD.

I Hate our front office, seriously, Tight End is the worst position on our roster, we need a guy that can catch some balls... and giving up two crappy picks is worth getting a probowl guy that will immediately help the team. why dont we ever have the cajones to pull off a deal like this?? hell i would have given up what washington gave up for taylor, a second rounder for the best DE in the leauge? hell yeah thats a steal.

I hate to say it but take a step further we could have drafted Boss, i really liked him coming out of school 2 yrs ago, and i would have given up a 2nd and a 5th for Shockey as well

of course he would have helped. but hes an a**clown who doesnt want to block and throws a hissy fit if you dont throw him the ball an amount that is up to his liking. hes a big name and a big ego and a big waste of talent.

If Trent Edwards was a proven QB and he had a presence in the locker room, I'd say sure, bring in Shockey. But even Manning couldn't perform well with him, i doubt Edwards would've either.

plus he will certainly want a new contract, and with Peters, Evans, and Crowell needing $$, its not just a matter of what we want.

Yea we shouldn't want to spend money to improve positions on this team, and we should judge guys based on one team. He has never once been in trouble with the law and has a clean character. God forbid we bring in a play maker to this team.
