    Dude's Home Improvement tip #317

When building walls in your basement, be sure to use tools such as levels and chalk lines to lay out walls. Further, do not use your hand to hold up a 12-foot wall section, especially if a) there is only 1/2" between the top of the wall and the steel support beam; and b) if you want to avoid having the entire section collapse and wedge your finger in between the beam and the board, resulting in a nasty gash at the tip of your finger (with visible bone), excessive blood loss, a trip to the ER, 7 stitches in said finger, and a vicodin high that lasts two days.

Next week we'll cover tips on proper use of compound miter saws.

I just downloaded a cool ap for my I-Pod touch. It's a level with a plumb bob.

Re: Dude's Home Improvement tip #317

I have an auto repair tip from this weekend. When using a wrench to loosen a nut to pull your car battery, don't drop the wrench such that it bounces and gets stuck in an inaccessible place under the battery - especially if you have not completed loosening the nut that you need to pull the battery.
"'Clean up your room.', 'Stand up straight.', 'Pick up your feet.', 'Take it like a man.', 'Be nice to your sister.', 'Don't mix beer and wine, ever.'. Oh yeah, 'Don't drive on the railroad track.'"

"Eh, Phil. That's one I happen to agree with."

There is a positive in all this - my copay on 15 Vicodin is only $2.33.

You should have multiple tools anyway.

You should always have help for these big jobs. Like someone to hold the wall and if any of this happens, it happens to THEM.

I have multiple wrenches for each English measurement size. I only had one that was 10 mm, which was what I needed.

So you ended up using an adjustable wrench?

It's not all bad - I get out of doing dishes for the next week.
