Every year there are several "can't miss" coordinators hired as head coaches. More times than not, these "can't miss" coordinators are back to being coordinators after two - three years.
This isn't as scary as the early rumors that they were discussing the job with Cowher.
While clearly Rex can run a defense, I've got to wonder how much of the nastiness of the Baltimore D can be attributed to him, and how much is a result of Lewis and the other strong personalities on the field.
In short, I don't feel much different about Ryan running the Jets than I did about Mangini. And I'm much less concerned than when the Fins hired Tuna. This feels kind of like a "whatever" change at this point.

Marvin Lewis and Mike Nolan dont really instill fear in anyone... so until Rex Ryan proves anything, I'll hold judgement.
Rhodes, Revis, Jenkins, Harris, and I think that Gholston can do some very Terrell Sugg like things under Rex Ryan, that's for sure. I completely expect Gholston to blow up next year, you heard it here first. Let me also say that if anybody can get a FA like Ray Lewis, Bart Scott or Terrell Suggs to leave Baltimore, Ryan is the guy that can do that. I completely expect the Jets to land 1 of those players listed.
^ Yeah, that is what I was thinking. It's either Scott or Suggs and that's not good for Buffalo. The Jets defense has been getting a lot much better and actually they have a lot of talent there and if Rex Ryan can bring some chemistry and the addition of a guy like Suggs to the 3-4 defense then Buffalo is not going to benefit from this at all.

good move for us, BUT unless we get a few more defensive players, he won't change our bend but dont break defense....
plus rumor had it if/when ryan was hired, brian schottenheimer would be let go from his contract, so hopefully thats true
