Nah... why would McGahee want to wear it? I'm sure he wants to "make famous" his own number.

McGahee is listed as number 2 on buffalobills.com. i guess 46 was temporary till 2 got approved. 46 was a real bad choice anyway.

I think if he wore 2, that would be okay. Doesen't the league have some stupid policy against wearing that number though? I think that is so dumb. If a QB wants to be #98, they should let him wear it. What's the rationale? Why should someone who maybe changed positions but not numbers (for example: when I played ball, I wore #87 and played outside linebacker after playing tight end previously) be forced to wear something they don't want to?

It's been beaten to death on these boards why the NFL does what it does.

Colleges and High schools get away with it because of roster limitations. In HS players will play 2-3 positions. In college, rosters have 70-90 players on them so they use unusual numbers.

It has to do with officials keeping track of whom is elligible. This is a league that fines guys for how they wear socks. They ain't gonna bend on numerals.

He's only listed as #2 until he actually has to take the field. I bet he's got a number in mind of an existing player. So they threw the kid a bone and list him as #2. Let's worry about it in 2004 when he actually takes to the field.
