I wonder if this was accidental.
Stephens had issues off the field. He had a couple sexual assault convictions dating back to the end of his playing days (his last team, the Chiefs, actually released him due to his being charged with rape) and deemed a sex offender. He later got in trouble because he didn't register like he was supposed to.
Then, earlier this year he was charged with rape again. He likely was headed for jail. Given the fact he ran into some trees at high speed with no one else involved, I wonder if it wasn't on purpose.
what a shame. at least he only took himself out and not anybody else.
