    Van Pelt question

I read that he is going to be calling the plays from the pressbox instead of on field. Do you think this is a good tactic? Shouldn't an OC actually be at field level or does this give hima better perspective in the scheme DCs are throwing at the Bills?

New offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt confirmed that he will work from the press box, relaying plays to backup QB Ryan Fitzpatrick on the field, who in turn will get the word to Trent Edwards. "I think it's just better for me to be up there in an atmosphere away from everything," Van Pelt said. "You can see it so much better upstairs. When I did call it in Germany (in NFL Europe), I felt really comfortable up there. You take some of the communication you just have to put it through somebody else and that guy on the sideline's going to be (QB) Ryan Fitzpatrick, so it'll be a similar voice that we hear in our room all week. We'll talk the same language and Ryan will pass it on to Trent and that'll allow me to get upstairs and remove myself from the sideline and focus on the field."

It can work either or. I don't have a problem with it. If it helps him see the field better, I'm all for it.

I would rather call the plays from above where you can see everything. You can see if a LB or S is in or out of position more timely than on the field, waiting for photos to come down.

He choose the box, so I believe the box is better.

    Re: Van Pelt question

The OC and DC should work from the booth IMO

have you ever been close to field level. You can't adequately see the field and formations from down there.

Plays can be called easily from thr booth and a headset can be handed to any player in a split second if the OC or DC wants to chit chat

    opinion of course

LOL is that why he's up in the booth? He's trying to avoid the inevitable explosion and wrath of TO?

    Re: Van Pelt question

Turk went up in the box one time last year and the offense put up 47 points against KC. Granted it was the Chiefs but again... the offense actually put up 47 points.

Heck, even Josh Reed scored a TD.

Was that the only time he went to the box or something?

I feel like the booth would be better. When i goto the games i can see from my nosebleed seats everyone on the field. When i goto the local games i cant see it as good from field level.

Actually, I think he may have been up there a few more games before returning to the sidelines but that was the first time up there for him.

I don't know how much stock you can put in it as far as Van Pelt is concerned, but I kinda wish I hadn't looked for an answer to your question..

They finished 3-7, scoring the fewest points in the league, but also giving up the most..

Frankfurt went to or won the World Bowl in 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007 - Van Pelt was there in 2005

Least first downs in the league, 20 less than next worst team

Worst yards per game, 40 less than next worst team

Worst time of possession, 2nd worst 3rd down %, most punts in league, least FG attempts

2nd best pass completion %, 2nd least interceptions

Highest red zone TD %, but overall red zone scoring % suffered because of their kicker who went 9/15

I dunno about most but i know many OC's are in the booth. The D-coords tend to be on the sidelines though.

    Re: Van Pelt question

I think its all a matter of personal preference and really doesn't mean anything at all.

    Re: Van Pelt question

There is no "better" location. It's a matter of preference and the personality of the coordinator.

Anyways, I'm more concerned about AVP's ability to read defenses than where he stands/sits/
