Did either team field a defense? LOL
Arizona did for one play
Not really. I think Arizona punted once. Although there were around 3 combined turnovers in the first quarter, then none afterwards.Originally Posted by Cntrygal

Did anyone else notice that the last play of the game should've been a facemask/unnecessary roughness penalty? Wouldn't that have given GB the ball? I think they might have been robbed there.

Yes & no. It was a face mask, but he had already fumbled it.Originally Posted by Jeff1220

Fun game to watch, this is why I love the playoffs.

As lofty a source as NBC News has basically come out and said the foul SHOULD have been called, and the game should have continued....

I am dumbfounded that the Packers (particularly Aaron Rodgers) didn't immediately protest this when it happened - if you watch the replays - the official is standing nearby and looking right at Rodgers and the defender when the penalty occurs.
AND the play immediately before, an Arizona defender could have easily been flagged for intentional head to head contact with Rodgers when tacking the QB. I'm sorry, but that was two blatant back to back personal fouls against the Green Bay quarterback, and the fact that neither was called astonished me. Horrible officiating - one would expect only the finest officials working playoff games, not the 'second string'.
lol, a lofty source.
I would agree if the face mask caused the fumble.
It didn't, the ball came out first, hit the face mask, then he grabs the mask.
But under the rules I don't believe it matters as long as the penalty occurred BEFORE the touchdown, which in this case the face mask happened before the ball broke the plane of the goal.Originally Posted by mybills
How many times have we seen great plays negated by penalty calls resulting from an action that had NO EFFECT on the outcome of the play? Y'know, holding no where near the play?
yeah, they've changed the rules so many times I've lost track. There's a rules website (someone posted before) where you could probably find the answer for sure.
This is turning into our personal chatroom - LOL!
I'm hanging out here waiting for NE39 to show up.
It kind of looks like Adams was trying to grab the ball when it was on Roger's face, and when the ball slid out he got the mask. Maybe it wasn't intentional.
Once the ball was out, the refs main focus went to the ball, which is why the call was missed. Not that I'm excusing it.
The call everyone should be worked up over is the the play or two before that where Rodgers took a vicious helmet to helmet hit and there was no call.
Oh, I've mentioned that too - I believe it was the play IMMEDIATELY prior to the fumble/touchdown - a blatant helmet to helmet foul against Rodgers that was ignored.Originally Posted by RockStar36
But honestly, I don't know how the facemask wasn't called either - you could SEE the official in the background looking right AT Rodgers and the Arizona defender with a solid hold on the mask. Astonishingly bad officiating.
Why neither play call resulted in protests from Green Bay's sideline is beyond me.
On top of that, there were two awful calls on the Fitz touchdown in the 3rd quarter. They called roughing the pass on GB when he was basically shoved into Warner, and "missed" a call on Fitz where he completely plowed over Woodson which allowed him to be so wide open.Originally Posted by Cleve
