Critical weekend for Bills coaching search

The Buffalo Bills went after the big fish in starting their head coaching search. Mike Shanahan was wooed way back in November, and Bill Cowher was wooed much more recently. Buffalo's backup plan included formally requesting permission to interview three of the league's most respected coordinators. With the NFL's divisional round of playoffs set to begin today, the Bills enter a critical weekend in their coaching search, even while not participating themselves.
Shanahan is in Washington, and Cowher appears comfortable waiting for other opportunities beyond 2010. One candidate the team interviewed, Perry Fewell, is the Giants' new defensive coordinator. One coordinator has already turned down Buffalo's interview request; Brian Schottenheimer is happy where he's at. A second, Arizona's Russ Grimm, is likely to follow suit.
Right now, one man appears genuinely interested in the job - Minnesota's Leslie Frazier - and while reports are overwhelmingly negative, Grimm isn't out of the picture yet, either. Both Minnesota and Arizona play in this weekend's NFC playoffs.
If Arizona can beat New Orleans on Sunday, Buffalo will have missed its chance to interview Grimm before January 25, as any coordinator working for a team in a conference championship game cannot discuss other jobs until after that game has been played, win or lose.
The same goes for Frazier. If Minnesota can hold its home-field advantage against Dallas, Buffalo won't be able to speak to Frazier again until after the NFC Championship Game, which takes place on January 24. If either Arizona or Minnesota makes it past next weekend, Buffalo won't be able to offer its job to either Frazier or Grimm until after the Super Bowl.

I prefer to stick with the stealth theory until proven otherwise.

I'm rooting for Arizona, and Minnesota.. I want to see OBD panic and screw this up some more. I want to read more fan discontent, and I want to read the faithful spin it and tell us all to chill out.

I've given up any and all hope... now I am actually finding joy in the Bills being the Bills

I'm coming to the point of view where if Grimm and Rivera stonewall us, as *****ty Jr. already has, Frazier makes the most sense. Granted we could do better (at least I had imagined we could), but we could also do a lot worse.

Who wouldn't embrace a coach (Frazier) who's the 5th or 6th choice of the fans????

If he is the only choice I guess we can't do nothing but embrace him. Ive talked to a coach out in Cali, a former player of his has played for Frazier. I am trying to get more information about Frazier from a players point of view. If I can do it, I will post what I can find.

Fans aren't always right, oddly enough. I would admit in the case of the recent Bills, they probably have a better track record than many, but you only have to look at the rabid assumptions that Cowher will come if he's offered enough $, to know that they aren't exactly rational.
Frazier is a legitimate candidate, regardless of personal preference.
I think we need the Cards to lose, above any other result, simply to find out whether or not Grimm does have any real interest.
I'm with others who find themselves congenitally unable to want the cowgirls to win. If that means that frazier will not be available for another week, then so be it. We still could do with interviewing other candidates anyway, although other viable candidates seem to be few and far between atm. ;(

The best case scenario for Buffalo right now is Minnesota to win, and Arizona to lose.

That holds off any Frazier signing and allows us to pursue Garrett and Grimm.

Two better options than Frazier in my opinion. So this weekend I am a huge Vikings and Saints fan.

Agreed. I'm also rooting for the Jets, so we can interview Rivera too.
