Another solid offseason signing by the Rangers requests a trade

Right from the start, the New York Rangers signing of Donald Brashear(notes) to a two-year, $2.8 million deal in July didn't sit well with fans. The image of Brashear, then with Washington, knocking Blair Betts out of their first-round playoff series last April was burned into their heads. Betts would miss Game 7 and the Capitals would finish their comeback by defeating the Rangers 2-1.

Now a Blueshirt, Brashear has only dressed for only 36 of New York's 60 games and with another year remaining on his deal and the fact that he's 38-years old, his contract will count against the salary cap, even if the Rangers put him through waivers. Brashear told The Bergen Record's Andrew Gross that the reason he is watching games from the press box is because of his recent trade request:

there is a reason these guys want to be Rangers and then want to leave:

GM: Here's your multiple bizillion dollar contact.
Player: Thanks! All signed, sealed and delivered.
GM: Let me introduce you to John Tortorella and the NY media and fans.
Player: I'd like to request a trade.

For as much as the Sabres FO gets bashed, I can only imagine what it would be like if the Sabres signed players to ridiculous contracts like the Rangers do.

Gomez, Kotalik, Brashear... I could keep going.

Yet somehow the Rangers consistently find other teams to bail them out. It is starting to piss me off.
