    Preseason Comments:

7/23/2010- Colin has a chance to be drafted in next years draft due to his athleticism. Hes a running threat as witnessed by his 1183 rushing yards and 16 TD's last season. He rumored to have 4.5-ish speed. Still, Nevada runs a pistol attack and teams may wonder if he can adapt to an NFL system. He needs work on his throwing mechanics, he seems to take to long to get the ball out. He seems to have decent arm strength but mechanics work and gaining muscle may be required for him to have an NFL quality arm. At times though, he flashes decent velocity and spiral. He seems to be fairly accurate but I think his lower completion numbers may stem from his slow wind up. He has above average height, but needs to add bulk to make it in the NFL.

    Comments:

    9/17/2010- vs. Cal

    1st Qtr:

12:32- Not a bad looking throw, had good spiral and a bit of zip.
11:24- He's a long striding runner with decent quicks.
8:24- Odd mechanics on this TD throw. The windup was slow, release was slow, and it appears pretty side-armed. It had OK velocity on this short route.
0:25- Feels the pressure and steps up into the pocket to throw.

    2nd Qtr:
13:58- Throws with a 3/4 to side armed motion, mechanics are not very good.
13:00- Nice run for a TD. He may find a home as a Wildcat QB a.l.a. Pat White.
9:44- Nice throw on the run.
2:36- Decent footwork but his mechanics are suspect. He makes a nice looking deep out throw. He doesn't rotate his hips or use his legs much when he throws, he pushes it and tries to use his arms.

    3rd Qtr:
3:42- Nice throw. He can have decent touch but his mechanics are not right.
1:24- Nice throw on the skinny post, good velocity and a tight spiral.

    4th Qtr:

3:29- Another run for a TD.

Colin Kaepernick is an interesting option for a team as a Wildcat QB. He can run and can throw. He may never be a starting QB in the NFL due to questionable mechanics. However, he has good arm strength and will throw the ball nicely at times. He has a good feel for the pressure and can hurt you with his legs. His size will need to improve. He is too thin and could get beat up in the NFL.
