several what ifs:
What if Hasek played the Montreal series instead of a banged up Fuhr.
For that matter, what if we never traded Andreychuk for Fuhr and had Hasek play, would we have even made the playoffs?
What if LaFontaine and Mogilny didn't get hurt and played in the Montreal series.
That "could have been" our best chance at a Cup. We had a juggernaut offense that year between LaFontaine and Mogilny. Hawerchuk almost had 100 points (96) as the third highest scorer on the team. We lost to Montreal in four straight with three of them going to overtime and Montreal went on to win the Cup that year.
Sorry if that is a Buffalo mentality and that Boston series was truly stunning for the Sabres. I was even at the "May day" game. But I lament what could have been for that team. The loss of LaFontaine hurt the worst.Comment
