All: The new Billszone site with the updated software is scheduled to be turned on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. The company that built it, Dynascale, estimates a FOUR HOUR shut down, from 8pm Pacific, (5pm Eastern) while they get it up and running. Nobody will be able to post in any forum until they are done. Afterwards, you may need to do a web search for the site, as old links will not work, because the site is getting a new IP address. Please be patient. If there are bugs, we will tackle them one at a time. Remember the goal is to be up and running with no glitches by camp. Doing this now assures us of that, because it gives us all summer to get our ducks in a row. Thank you!
I think it is interesting that people want to hang this guys +/- on him even though he was on a bad team. Does that mean that people wouldnt want Dany Heatley? I mean he is a -27 over his first 2 years. Doesn't matter right that he has over 60 goals in those two season. 14pp goals on a bad team??? Yeah you bet I am gonna get excited over Delmore!!!
+/- is about the only stat that you can hang on someone on a really bad team, because it's relative to everyone else. No matter how you slice it -17 is a pathetic stat, when the predators are mostly around -1 +1 or so, especially considering he's a defenseman.
He was a liability every time he stepped on the ice, that's why they dealt him.
They traded Delmore because they had just re-signed Mark Eaton and Tomas Kloucek. Delmore became expendable. And a -17 on the Predators is a lot different than a -17 on the Stars for example. Delmore was on the ice with 4 other guys most of the time, so a +/- stat is less accurate about a players skill when they're on a crappy team.
Take Dellmore and any other defenseman on the Predators, and swap his ice time, the situations they put him in, the lines he matched up with and everything else.
Then compare what the other player's +/- would have been. Give Andy only 10 minutes a game against a team's 3rd and 4th lines and I'll bet he's not -17.
He was last place +/- for defensemen on the predators (there are 8 predator defensemen on the team with better +/-) and bottom 10 % in the league. Also, their goalie (Vokun) had a reg season GAA average comparable to Giggy or Balfour, so it's easy too see who stood out like a sore thumb on the blueline for the Predators.
As a young defenseman coming into the league, you want to build a base as a defensive player and then branch out as a scorer.
In the pros a player like that is a coaches worst nightmare.
