Johnny Jolly sentenced to 6 years in jail

Suspended Packers DE Johnny Jolly was sentenced Thursday to six years in prison for violating the terms of his probation for possessing drugs and tampering with evidence.

Jolly has been arrested three times in the past four years for possession of the codeine drink "Sizzurp." He recently described codeine as his "only friend" because it kept him numb. Suspended during last year's Super Bowl run, Jolly explained, "I didn't want to be around anyone. I didn't want to answer no questions. And so I stayed in the room, just drunk, and watched." The 28-year-old's football career is over.

Terrible to see a guy waste his life like this. He was turning into a very good DL too.

This just shows how messed up our court system is. Six years for codeine? That would be a harsh sentence even if it were for distribution of codeine let alone possession.

There are people who rape others or molest children, manslaughter and other worse crimes that gets less time then this. He won't end up spending 6 years but even if he gets out after 14 months when he's up for parole that is absurd for possession.

This is nothing but a waste of our taxpayer money and a waste of years off of somebody's life. The guy is an addict and it's a victimless crime. He needs help not prison.

As long as most of our prisons our privatized there will be more and more reasons to send people to the joint when they shouldn't belong there. All of it is bought for by lobbying and corrupt politicians/judges and paid for by the taxpayers.

Somebody doesn't invest all that money to open up a private prison to leave it empty. They spend enough money in kickbacks for corrupt politicians, police and judges to make sure they fill the prisons up.

It's pretty bad when we are cutting assistance like heat, food, etc. for the poor or to people who are laid off of work and can't find a job, getting rid of essential services like fireman, etc. because they say we're in debt but yet we can continue to spend billions a year to put people in jail for minor drug offenses which accounts for almost half of all the people in jail/prison.
