    FL's Playoff Picks

I like doing this, and then looking back at how wrong I was on Monday.

    Here's my round 1 prognostics:

    Cincinnati @ Houston:

While Cincy has a rookie QB, Houston has Jake Delhomme. Picking a rookie QB to win a playoff game on the road is crazy. I am a wild and crazy guy. I think Cincy's D bottles up Houston's rushing attack and forces Delhomme to beat them. I really like Cincy in this game. Pick: Bengals

    Pittsburgh @ Denver:

First, let me say that I'm not a huge fan of Tim Tebow, Tebowmania, whatever you wanna call him. I also don't condone Tebowing. I am a huge fan of Denver's defense, and Willis McGahee's ability to shred defenses.
Pittsburgh is hurting. Bad. Mendenhall is out, Clark isn't playing and Big Ben is playing practically on one leg.
I think this defensive slugfest comes down to the kicking game, and I like Denver's chances. Pick: Broncos

    Atlanta @ NY Giants:

Eli Manning and the Giants are so bi-polar they should change their name to Charlie Sheen. You never know what to expect with this team. They crap the bed vs Washington one week, then they beat the NY Jets and the Dallas Cowboys rather easily.
Speaking of bi-polar, have you followed Atlanta this year? They should change their name to the NY Giants.
I do think Atlanta is a better football team, has a better running game. I like Atlanta's chances. I'm taking Atlanta in the 3rd upset pick of the day.

    and finally:

    Detroit @ New Orleans:

I know I've bashed the kitty-cats before, and said they were not a playoff team, etc, etc. I was wrong, ok? Happy? I don't, however, think they can beat the Saints, unless Ndonkeykong Suh stomps on Drew Brees' throwing arm and puts him out of the game in the 1st quarter. I think this game might be closer than people are predicting, but I don't see Detroit winning. It wouldn't shock me, especially after Seattle upset New Orleans last year, but I wouldn't count on lightning striking twice.
Pick: New Orleans in a wild shoot out and possibly the highest scoring playoff game ever.

    Re: FL's Playoff Picks

Only four games, pretty sure you'd need a tiebreaker. Picks are bolded

    Cincinnati @ Houston
    - Both teams thrive on defenses and running games, especially with Schaub hurt. At this point, Cincy's O and D are both better than Houston's units.

    Pittsburgh @ Denver
    - Denver has been crashing to earth for a while. If Dick Lebeau can stymie Tom Brady, I'm betting he can stop Tebow as well. Put Ike Taylor on Demaryius Thomas and you're pretty much good to go.

    Atlanta @ New York Giants
    - I hate picking so many away teams, but Atlanta is hot and the Giants are inconsistent, as always.

    Detroit @ New Orleans
    - Yeah, the first home team pick, which means I'll almost certainly get one wrong. New Orleans is absolutely on fire, but this may be closer than it appears if they start a down slide. Will be interesting to see how Detroit's DL does against New Orleans' OL.

    CIN - HOU:

    HOU.

CIN's defensive backfield has been pretty sorry since Hall went out - and he wasn't really playing well. CIN lost their reg. season HOU game because DT Atkins was returning a fumble deep in HOU territory, and had the ball knocked back to HOU. Then rookie TJ Yates drove down 80+ yards, and with 1 second left, they failed to cover WR Walter and lost by a point. HOU TE Daniels punished their safeties - Crockett's injury history tells. And HOU's Andre Johnson is good to go for this game.

Their running game is poor, IMO. The entire Western World knows that in short yardage and in the red zone, they run to the left or the middle. That's been their MO for years. Benson - he never, ever leaps over a pile to gain a 3rd and inches thing, usually hitting the pile standing straight up. And three fumbles against HOU, week 16. He sure was a good pick-up, but as they say - I think he's hit that wall. Scott sports a crisp 3.4 average - CIN will be in the RB market in the 3rd round.

Game 15, they were up 23 -0, let ARI come back. ARI wins the game if WR Doucet - with not a defender in sight - doesn't trip himself 20 yards or so out from the goal line with a couple of minutes left in the 4th.

CIN's record for getting tds in the red zone is terrible. They have good front 7 defensive talent, but DC Zimmer does call a blitz at wrong times. I've watched them directly lose 3 games late since he came on board, because of that. And punter Huber has been inconsistent in recent games.

    PIT - DEN:

    PIT.

DEN will probably be playing 11 vs. PIT and the entire ref crew. Shame on the league for allowing PIT to be a 5th seed. Another Jerome Bettis Victory Tour season?

    ATL - NYG:

    NYG.

    G'nts are looking pretty strong.

    DET - NO:

    NO.

DET's coaching has let the inmates run the asylum. The PF flags may fly.

    Re: FL's Playoff Picks

I'm going with Denver, Giants, New Orleans, and Cincy.

I will then go further with my predictions:

Cincy @ New England - NE
    Denver @ Baltimore - BAL
Giants @ Green Bay - GB
NO @ San Fran - NO

Baltimore @ New England - BAL
New Orleans @ Green Bay - GB

BAL vs GB - Green Bay repeat.

*Yes I live half hour from Packerland but I'm in no way shape or form a Packer fan. They're just that freaking good.

Yes but he also runs for 152 and 2 TDs.

Actually, both teams have rookie QBs playing. T.J. Yates is starting for Houston, not Delhomme.

I wouldn't bank on BAL. In the 1st CIN game, a td was disallowed (Gresham) via the "Calvin Johnson" rule that would have tied it up very, very late. 7 point loss for CIN.

The 2nd game, BAL scored 14 on two (shame on CIN) 50+ td runs by Rice. He popped thru and that was that. The officiating was terrible. BAL was handed a late 1st half drive for a td - a BAL fan making comments in nfl.com's site said "thanks!" Also, Kicker Nugent missed a 36 yarder.

Funny moment in that game. Rice took a hand-off, moved left, and their LT was turned around and stopped him cold. Rice got up and started shaking his right arm and pointing "we're going that way!'

If you have access, the 2nd-to last play shows AJ Green in the ez, with a BAL player ripping his jersey off his right shoulder and down to his arm - you can see his shoulder pads - with a ref in plain view facing the action - no call. 8 point loss. It reminded me of "Just give it to 'em."

Ray Lewis is still hurting - a toe problem. I've seen him play for a long, long time - what a marvelous player. He was obviously hobbled in week 17. IMO, Ed Reed's not right, either.

    Re: FL's Playoff Picks

FL has no ZB's to pay the winners...
I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?"
"Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet.
You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times."
    It was all
true what he was saying. And yet, I thought something is brewing inside the head of this Coach.
He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can
mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.
