Re: What are you listening to?

My favorite Stones song but I never expected it to be.

I lost a bet with Pink and all I got was this dumb avatar that I've had awhile anyway.

For some people who I knew who aren't here anymore. It's weird getting old.

Funny. I guess there are a few I like now. In high school I remember proudly proclaiming how much I hated Journey. Our prom song was their recent release "Open Arms" (yes, graduated in 1982). It was all over the radio. My daughter's school has reinvested in "Don't Stop Believing" closing out the last couple of Spring Concerts with a rocking version sung by the kids. I recently downloaded the albums just before Escape (the ones I once hated). Journey came to national recognition with the release of Infinity in 1978 (first album with Steve Perry). I always liked Gregg Rolie's vocals & keyboards. So I recently went back to the album before they breakout album called Next. Album put out in 1977. I first heard in 2018. It has no hits, but has some great riffs if you like that 1970's bay-area rock. So, here are 2 from NEXT. The second one has a riff that sounds a lot like a Rush tune that I just can't place.

Most know the Journey story. They run a documentary on it on cable at times. Schon & Rolie came over from Santana and formed the group. They put out 3 albums before Perry joined for the 1978 Infinity album. Mostly unrecognized stuff.

Re: What are you listening to?

I remember I used to wait for this song at Mulligans Brick Bar over cases of splits. I'd always be leaning on something without needing to, my friends would be doing shots or dancing, we had about 5 regulars every Monday and Thursday, we'd laugh, drink, fight with other people, sometimes ourselves and largely stagger into the Towne where I always just wanted coffee,a greekburger and fries with gravy, though sometimes I'd swap the greekburger with a grilled cheese and bacon.

Love of my life couldn't cut it, not with me, I mean with life. I mean we talked about it. She was manic depressive and couldn't handle how the meds of the day affected her. I wasn't going to give up on her no matter who else did. We only ever got to this song a couple times in a decade, but they were precious. The best, we were both leaning on something we didn't need to. She was dangling a foot, I was rapping an empty bottle on a beam. The song came on, we looked at each other, and she she grinned, stepped over and just ducked her head into my chest and stood there. She smelled like Gardenias and I felt invincible, like I could save the world from whatever it was doing. We had breakfast, maybe things would be ok.

Time marches on. Probably sometimes things are ok and sometimes they're not. Still remember the song and how it made me feel once though. The Foundations....

Re: What are you listening to?

Mulligan's Brick bar was great. It was oldies ! None of us was real keen on oldies back then, but I mean it was the Brick Bar and we were downing cases of OV splits like water, so I dunno, we became keen on oldies.

My best two buds were Italian. It was odd, I came to the Italian west side from the east side, where Polacks fought with Italians from Lovejoy. I hated Italians. Was on the west side about 2 weeks, and I loved Italians. The one guy was like Tommy DeSimone without being homicidal, the other was like Luca Brasi with intelligence. I looked totally out of place with them, long hair fu manchu stache and leather jacket. We fit together perfectly for some reason, heckling, cheering, flawlessly buying alternate rounds, alternately paying for breakfasts without reminders. We fought trees and lost, fought Canadians and won, and lost, were slapped in the face, were caught by each other making the shameless pickup attempt at closing, thrown out one door and let back in at the other because we never bothered the bouncers who were amused by us, and always wandered together back to the Towne for breakfast, laughing at ourselves for our antics. None of us took our drunken selves seriously.

At breakfast we'd get more serious, the antics were over. Luca owns a successful car shop down south now last I looked, Tommy became an engineer for IBM. Me, well.....

Being young and being stupid wasn't so nasty. We had perspective. The Brick Bar was my first "regular", the Continental was up next, life had so much promise once didn't it ?

Yeah, you know, I had a lot of colorful, vivid little moments that are good to remember sometimes and I'm lucky to remember them in their context of the day. I'm still here too, to remember them.

    Another 'Stones song I suppose.

Re: What are you listening to?

While I only frequent it a few times, the Brick Bar was not only a great bar it was probably the best bar. Always had a mystique about it and don't let me down when I tried it out.

I knew a girl on high school who I became friends with while in college. Smart and funny and she had a drinking problem. She liked the wine. Our one bottle Boone's Farm lunches turned into two. I never really cared for school so I didn't mind. One night I walked into the Brick Bar alone one night and there she was all alone too. Great night. So that's about my memory of that place, and ice cold OV splits. Not too dark, not too bright. Not too smokey it was just right. And the crowd was the best.

We didn't have a song, but we had an album First introspective album I ever listened to thanks to her. Like really listened too. She was deeper than I was. Carol King Tapestry.

Always appreciate you sharing your wisdom. Makes me feel like a damned fool sometimes.

Why did posting a favorite Stones song become a thing? Oh well... Here's mine. No memory of it until just a couple years ago though!

Miss You (dance version). An all time great Stones groove.

Remember when bands actually had harmony ? Being old, I do. These guys were fabulous in the 1960's.
