    Star Wars: Episode 7 announced

    http://blogs.wsj.com/speakeasy/2012/...oming-in-2015/

In a press release, the company announced “Continuing its strategy of delivering exceptional creative content to audiences around the world, The Walt Disney Company (NYSE: DIS) has agreed to acquire Lucasfilm Ltd. in a stock and cash transaction. Lucasfilm is 100% owned by Lucasfilm Chairman and Founder, George Lucas.”
The release went on to say “Kathleen Kennedy, current Co-Chairman of Lucasfilm, will become President of Lucasfilm…Ms. Kennedy will serve as executive producer on new Star Wars feature films, with George Lucas serving as creative consultant. Star Wars Episode 7 is targeted for release in 2015, with more feature films expected to continue the Star Wars saga and grow the franchise well into the future.”

Robert A. Iger, chairman and CEO, The Walt Disney Company, said in the release that there is “substantial pent up demand” for a new “Star Wars” movie. “In 2015, we’re planning to release Star Wars Episode 7 – the first feature film under the ‘Disney-Lucasfilm’ brand,” Iger said. “That will be followed by Episodes 8 and 9 – and our long term plan is to release a new Star Wars feature film every two to three years.”
BRB, gonna go get in line.

    Nice. About time.

It would be nice if Disney/Lucas could duplicate the same kind of quality/success reintroducing the Star Wars franchise that Warner Bros and Nolan have achieved with Batman.

That's what my youngest said as soon as he heard Disney bought them.

I hope it's not going to be a clunker like Dark Knight Rises. What a noisy thing that was - whatever thin plot and dialogue it had was buried by the glitz and volume. Ugh.

Are you familiar with the Star Wars series? That's exactly what Ep 1-3 did.

Like a lot of people, I'm a huge fan of the original trilogy. They came out when I was a kid, which was perfect. Wasn't so happy about the last 3 movies, and I'm kind of skeptical with Disney getting a hold of the film franchise. I guess we'll see what happens. 560785_10151221847338290_1046553488_n.jpg

I am. They didn't. They had some reasonable dialogue, however thin. I was referring to Dark Night etc. BTW...

I don't expect this new Star Wars to be as clever like previous ones, and I realize that most of today's ticket buyers have narrower minds and are dumber than in years past. Low expectations, immediate gratification.

I just hope that they don't substitute snappy repartee with blinding images and characters uttering inanities. When I pay for a flick, I like to see actors act, enjoy the story, and not have my head stuck into some sort of continually-flushing kaleidoscope toilet. YMMV.

1 and 2 yes, I think 3 --while not up to the standard of the original trilogy -- was a decent film in its own right.

Great. I was a big fan of the first group that came out, episodes 4,5, and 6. Not so much the additional episodes, but we'll give the new ones a chance.

Personally, I would like to see somebody tackle the Robert Jordan epic fantasy, "The Wheel of Time" but that might be just too big an undertaking.

you didn't like the dark knight rises? come on. it tied the whole thing up nicely. first superhero trilogy that took care of itself and ended with a touch of hope at the end.

star wars was never known for its dialogue.it was credited for being almost religious in that its about fake things that people take way too seriously.

I liked TDKR a lot. It wasn't as good as TDK, but Ledger's Joker was one of the best villains ever, so you're not gonna top that.

I disagree. The original trilogy had Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher, both of whom did an excellent job and delivered some genius scenes.

    "I love you."
    "I know."

The prequels suffered tremendously because everybody was taking them way too seriously, and the only real attempt at humor was the godawful Jar-Jar slapstick routine.
