Re: Chris Christie says nice things about the President...

It would have been very interesting if Christie had run & was the nominee. Can you imagine if the two of them had to come together while they were running against each other? It actually could have been a moment of true American unity. One things for sure, if Christie runs we won't see a campaign based on lies like the Romney campaign. It would be very interesting to see a Christie-Cuomo 2016 election. NY v NJ with 2 fiscal conservatives who have both worked across the aisle battling it out on the social and economic issues. They would both be wise to take a VP with extensive foreign policy experience.

I agree but you didn't answer my question. What difference does it make why he said it as we both agree at the very least it needed to be said. Look at the reaction to it, outside of the crazy partisans either bashing him from the right or calling it a cheap political stunt from the left people have held it up as something that we can agree on. For the first time in a while people are seeing reasons to work together as opposed to fight each other.

So who gives a **** why he said, what matters is that it got people actually thinking again if only for a minute.

Because if it is not genuine it won't last.

And I really have not heard bashing from the left.

Of course it won't last, people are stupid and have 5 second attention spans, but it doesn't need to, nor does Christie want it to. The point is he did with a single statement or multiple tweets, the same thing Obama did with his convention speech. He made people on both sides (and mostly in the middle) say that could be my guy. How genuine it is, matters not one bit, it was the flash. If I was Christie Id want nothing to get done for the next four years, Id pray the President and Congress dead lock and the voters deal with another four years of bitching and moaning. He needs to run a moderate campaign (and I truly believe that's who he is politically) and he needs the breaking point. He just showed you how close we are, now it just needs that shove.

Go to some of the wacko blogs on the left that equal idiots like Rush and Coulter on the right, they are saying it, just stupidity from both extremes because they are scared by it for the reasons I listed above.

Now reverse it for genders, and specifically in terms of physical appearance. There was a interesting discussion I was lectured about in college in a sociology class where they took 100 men and 100 women and showed them a picture of every member of congress that was of the opposite sex and asked them to rate their attractiveness on a scale of 1-10. The women rated the men of congress somewhere around a 6 or 7, while the men rated the women somewhere around a 4 or 5. Anyways the professors point is that we want the "attractive" male lead as the leaders of this country, but we (and he specifically said women don't want) the attractive female lead, mostly due to objectification (See Palin, strictly from a physical standpoint) and jealousy. It was a fascinating discussion for our lecture hall, no way of knowing how true it is since the sample size was so small but hard to argue the results if you go through the flip book.

I think it has something to do with older women are viewed as less attractive than older men. Most of the elected officials are well past their prime in terms of physical attractiveness. It's even worse in the US Senate, which is composed of a bunch of old men & women-many well past the age when their peers are all retired.
Here's a good example. Hillary Clinton & Mitt Romney are the same age, both 65. I doubt that anyone would claim that Hillary is more attractive than Romney on a scale of 1-10.

    yeah, total non-factor.

i dont think obamas gonna sit there and think "gee, christie was mean to me, so im not going to aid his devastated state." or "boy, that christie was a swell guy in the press this week. better give new jersey some aid to rebuild!"

its called being professional, and these men can put personal politics aside to do whats right and needs to be done.

Re: Chris Christie says nice things about the President...

When I watch/listen to Christie I see a man who is genuinely upset and concerned by the devastation Sandy has wreaked on his state, and all the pain it is causing so many of his residents. When looking at all the pictures coming out of NJ I don't see how you couldn't be. It's gonna take them a very, very long time to recover from all the damage it has caused. I mean I don't know, what 5 years? 10 years? if ever. Their coast may be forever changed.

Than I'm reading on DKos about an article at Politico, about how Christie was Romney's first choice as VP!!
    http://www.politico.com/news/stories...254.html?hp=t1
    Hmmmmm!!!

Maybe there was some sour grapes there that led Christie to so enthusiastically praise the President.

Either way, I truly believe he has been quite moved by all the devastation Sandy brought down on his state and it's citizens.

Re: Chris Christie says nice things about the President...

Old Mittens and Faux News must have gotten together to try and spin the cleanup of Hurricane Sandy after Republicans like Powell, Bloomberg and Christie have either endorsed Obama or said he is doing a good job either before or after the storm. Other Republicans have came out and said Obama has done a good job with the mess he was left with 4 years ago. Of course them ones are no longer in office or they wouldn't dare to say it or there would be a revolt against them by the Republican Party.

Ever since Christie, Bloomberg and others came out and praised Obama Faux News is trying to find any place in New Jersey or New York City that isn't cleaned up yet to say FEMA and Obama are doing a horrible job handling the aftermath. They keep showing the long gas lines trying to con unintelligent people into thinking about the OPEC situation of the 1970's.

They are acting like it's a travesty that a Hurricane that spread over 900 miles, 25% of the population of the USA and that hit multiple states isn't totally cleaned up and everyone hasn't been taken care of yet a few days after the storm hit. All of this didn't start until Christie's endorsement of Obama along with others. Now they are attacking their golden child of the past few years and had to try and spin this for Mitt that god forbid everything isn't back to normal three days later.

I know it's easy to clean up huge cities where most of it was underwater with millions of people out of power and thousands of homes and businesses destroyed but come on now Faux. At least have some sympathy These guys never cease to amaze me.

Yeah Billsfever, I agree, I keep telling people good thing this didn't happen 4-5-6 or more weeks ago, and peoples nerves would be getting really frazzled because everything wasn't cleaned up already, the republicans would be jumping all over it.

It's like the piss ass economy Obama stepped into 4 years ago, only an idiot would have thought it could be brought back to health in any short period of time. And actually, considering the totally obstructionist House he has had to deal with, I'm surprised it's recovered as well as it has. Imagine if Obama had been allowed to do what Reagan did to deal with his inherited recession and go on a massive hiring binge and expansion of the govt!!! Things would be so, so much better, unemployment would be below 5%. (at least) Instead they've been making it even worse by shrinking the size of govt!!

Nah that's the one thing Faux News and the Republicans don't want to talk about. In a normal 4 year term there would've been about 700,000 to 1 million+ government workers hired. In these last 4 years we have lost about that many government jobs. That's a difference of 1.5 - 2 million or more jobs.

I'm not saying it's right or wrong to have more government workers then you need but if you add up them differences the unemployment rate would be well under 7% by now. But if you ask Faux News and the Republicans we have expanded the government to socialist style sizes over the past 4 years even though we have less government employees then we did when he took office. Facts are something they have never heard of or liked to admit though.

FWIW Christie did confirm he is still voting for Romney tomorrow in an interview with an Israeli news station.
