I'm no doomsday conspiracist, but I love how Patti gets ripped for predicting horrible crazy storms are coming, one does, but she's still made fun of here. How quickly do they have to come one after another before there'll be something to it?
Imbondz, Superbowl champion quarterback for the Buffalo Bills, 2010 (LEAGUE MVP), 2013, 2014, 2017(LEAGUE MVP), 2022(LEAGUE CO-MVP), 2023!
I will say this. I'm not a doomsday prepper but have always tried to be prepared. For some reason Hurricane Sandy really made me take a serious inventory of what would happen if I lost power, food and water for three days. Not a fun exercise. I realize like most of the people in NJ I would be screwed. I'm totally NOT prepared.
Small goal I JUST started (no where close yet). What would I need to survive for three days with no water, food or power? I suggest you try this. I'm going to start at three days and slowly try to build up those days to at least seven days of "self-sufficiency." I might even take it further than those 7 days.
Oh, I already have a wood burning stove so I'm ahead of the game.![]()

Only the people with electric and HEAT are making fun. The cold ones in the dark are not making fun.
I'm just here to warn the others who are CURRENTLY warm and have electricity that it is a temporary situation. You need to be prepared for, at a minimum, chronic gasoline shortages and rolling power outages.

What do you think of kerosene heaters Patti?
My dad has a kerosene heater and it works great! We've used it a lot of times in the winter when we lost power. They also have a gas fireplace that I believe will work if it's on before the power goes out. It looks just like a wood burning stove but it's run via gas.
But for the grace of God go I
I must've been born a lucky guy
Heaven only knows how I've been blessed
With the gift of you love
And I look around and all I see
Is your happiness embracing me
Oh Lord I'd be lost
But for the grace of God

Storm shelters are okay, but not GREAT places to be. I guess a last resort if you don't have friends/family or insurance-paid hotel nearby.

I don't know a lot about kerosene heating, but I like propane. There are great underground storage options for propane (my neighbors have an underground tank), and of course it can run your gas grill. Some gas- or propane-fueled fireplaces will run WITHOUT electricity, which is a key point obviously when the electric is out.
