How did I forget that other first round bum McCargo? My god this team sucks at everything that has to do with the draft.

However, we did have 2 quality RBs at the time we drafted Spiller. Lynch is quality as is Freddy. We didn't have quality WRs at the time, we've needed playmakers for a while. I mean people still say AJ Green shoulda been the choice instead of Dareus. Bryant is a playmaker yeah but his primadonna attitude puts some people off. I think this team could use a little swagger, we're way too passive and nonchalant all the way around.

I think Dez by now would literally explode on the efforts we've seen out of this team and out of this coaching staff. It might not be a bad thing at this point.

It's really about the fact Spiller was a luxury pick for a team that couldn't afford a luxury pick at the time he was selected. Especially when there were talented guys on the board that honestly big picture a few years later would have helped more than Spiller does.
It's pretty hard to argue with this, very hard.

Re: Meaningless wins and stupid fIIking draft selections.

First and foremost in the NFL you need a franchise QB. After that, you need to consistently hit on draft picks. Look at the Pats, Steelers, Giants, and Packers. They get their franchise QB and then draft well and have very few misses in the early rounds of the draft. That formula makes them playoff teams year in and year out.

The Bills have been without a franchise QB and consistently miss badly in the early rounds with their picks. Couple that with complete ineptitude in coaching and that's why we've witnessed 10+ years in futility.
Remember Kevin Everett in your thoughts.

Meaningless wins and stupid f**king draft selection have cost us almost every year. Meaningless wins have cost us Ben Roethlisberger, Vince Wilfork, Vernon Davis, Patrick Willis, Jerod Mayo, Von Miller just to name a few.. Whats the KC and Cleve wins going to cost us next draft?

DONT EVER SAY THAT ON THIS BOARD. HERE THEHY LOVE MEANINGLESS WINS!!! THEY LOVED WINNING THOSE FEW EXTRA GAMES AND NOT GETTING BIG BEN, ETC....

EVERY YEAR, I POINT IT OUT. EVERY YEAR THE BOARD GOES UP MY ASS ABOUT IT... THE FANS HERE GET WHAT THEY DESERVE. THEY GOT TO WATCH PITTSBURGH AND THE COLTS HAVE 1 BAD SEASON WHICH LEAD THEM TO DRAFTING BIG BEN AND LUCK BUT THESE BILLS FANS ARE MIOPIC. GOD FORBID THEY GO 6-10 INSTEAD OF 8-8. HA! THE BILLS WILL SUCK FOR ANOTHER 12 YEARS.

Then you have stupid fIIking picks like McGahee, Whitner, Maybin, Losman, CJ Spiller, and Marcell Dareus.
Dareus because everyone knew Green and Peterson were going to be stars.

THIS IS ALL ABOUT FO/GM/COACH.... ITS TAKES 3-4 YEARS ON THIS BOARD TO FIGURE OUT THAT A **** SANDWICH IS A **** SANDWICH AND IF YOU POINT IT OUT IN YEAR 1,2, OR 3.... THEN YOUR ONE OF THOSE NEGATIVE FANS....

Does any one wonder why the Bills continue to suck? Just look at their 1st round draft picks they continue to miss on.

SOME OF THE POSTERS ON THIS BOARD ACTUALLY DO...

You cant be this bad at drafting and think anything will ever change.

The Big Ben point is kind of iffy in my opinion.

We traded up for Losman that year when we could/should have just traded up for Ben instead.

The Steelers weren't god awful terrible in 2003, not any more so than us.

The Ben/JP thing would have been completely moot however if we used our 3rd round pick on Matt Schuab instead of...I can't even type his name....it's that bad. He was the message boards whipping boy back in 06 though and probably before then LMAO

And that goes to show you why it does not matter where we draft. We have consistently shown that no matter where in the round we are, we make the wrong selection. So people want to lose on purpose so we can have a higher choice. Great. We get that higher selection, and make the wrong choice.
True fans want wins, not draft picks.

Also, if we don't draft Spiller...Lynch may still be here.
I think it was pretty clear even without the Spiller pick Lynch's time in Buffalo was just about over.

You'd think after 2 strikes, people would weigh the Lynch risk as well. Does anyone remember who we drafted with his pick?

Hell the Lions traded down in that draft.

Marcell Dareus was a no-brainer pick. It was not stupid, and that's true no matter how he pans out. Spiller is a good player so that's a good pick, even though it made sense to nobody at the time because it wasn't a position of need.

A STUPID pick would be Maybin, who is also on your list. I could not believe it even at the time, not only because it was dumb in itself, but Brian Orakpo was sitting there to be had.

I actually wanted Jay Cutler in 2006, but I didn't think the Bills would do it...they didn't. They were too busy in their Losman delusion. I wanted Haloti Ngata, though.

My point is that you can say through hindsight that we could have had this player or that, but there is no guarantee we'd pick those guys. Guys like that have been available when we've picked and we didn't take them.

                          Not much you can do...

What good would AJ Green or Dez Bryant do on this team right now with Fitz at QB and even if we had a great QB, I wouldn't want Dez Bryant anywhere near this team. The problem is not the receivers, it's the QB.

I agree with all of this. And to be honest, the guy I REALLY wanted us to draft in '10 was Demaryius Thomas. He wasn't quite as talented as Dez, but he was way less of a headache, and he played for Gailey at Georgia Tech. I thought Demaryius would be a no-brainer. He would have fit one of our biggest needs, and wouldn't have been that big of a reach (he did go before Dez, after all). I mean, would you rather have: Freddy Spiller Stevie Donald Jones OR Freddy Lynch Stevie Demaryius/Dez? I like Spiller, but how can anybody say that we wouldn't be better off with option B?

The problem is clearly BOTH. Fitz is awful, and our WR's are a joke, outside of Stevie. You can't argue that we don't need good WR's because our QB stinks. If we draft a QB in the 1st round next year, who the hell is he going to throw to? If Stevie is hurt or covered, we have nobody else.
