I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that the response has been as exemplar as Katrina's was negligent.

not to mention how far the bar for journalism has fallen in general.
Chet Huntley has been dead for 40 years. He wasn't in New Orleans either.
Gailey's history. He just doesn't know it yet.

What sucks the most is the lack of credible/reliable information. I lucked out and got power back in 24 hours. Others here at work haven't yet. And everyone is nervous with the gas situation.

    Where are you bf1?

I've spent most of my time up in the Bronx and have only driven through the affected areas.

    Long Island.

What we got going on is a major inconvenience for many and devastation for others. Yet everyone is panicking the same. The way to alleviate it is with strong and true communication backed my actions. I think Cuomo is trying to play tough guy too much bullying the utility companies and doing little in terms of action and disseminating reliable information.

I didn't say it was worse, I said it doesn't mean it was better. Especially when you consider what passes for journalism these days. You are free to go on that limb, Im just not willing to make that assumption yet.

It's not an assumption. The response to Katrina was as big a disaster as the hurricane itself. The response to Sandy has been fine. Do you think it's possible that the two could ever be considered comparable? Heck, FEMA could ship Alpo instead of MREs, shift operations to protect Mitt's millions in the Caymans from a neap tide, and the poster children for FEMA incompetence would still be Bush and Brownie.

For some reason, I get the feeling that if BO sent a flaming bag of poo to the victims, you'd still defend him.

    Re: Katrina vs. Sandy

i know staten islands power problem in some areas is boats and ships that washed ashore that are blocking the utility crews from restoring power. those boats need to be craned out.

from the political aspect, it sounds like obama did well preparing and handling the aftermath of the storm. fact is, in a storm this large, things are going to take a while to get fixed. its just the way things are.

Absolutely, but with the relief effort still ongoing and another storm headed that way it's premature to assume anything about how it will end up or to even consider politics right now.

What it comes down to is that liberals are meanies and white people are victims.

If we had a white president and all the affected people were poor black people, do you think the public response would be the same?

but wasnt that the point of this thread?

in katrina, if the levies dont fail, that storm is largely an afterthought.

I get the feeling that if Obama had appointed a competent FEMA manager and had directed the situation with executive aplomb, you would still find fault with him.

    Re: Katrina vs. Sandy

I was living in downtown NOLA at the time. People had 5-6 days to get out. Only, people who suffered were the idiots who stayed at home and didn't evacuate....

Fema shouldve gotten water to downtown a day or two earlier then they did. That was the only screwup there..
