Denny's to charge 5% 'Obamacare surcharge' and cut employee hours to deal with cost of legislation..

Florida based restaurant boss John Metz, who runs approximately 40 Denny's and owns the Hurricane Grill & Wings franchise has decided to offset that by adding a five percent surcharge to customers' bills and will reduce his employees' hours.
With Obamacare due to be fully implemented in January 2014, Metz has justified his move by claiming it is 'the only alternative. I've got to pass on the cost to the customer.'
Except it's not his only alternative. He could accept 5% less profits and still live like a king. But he won't. Instead, he'd rather **** his employees and his customers so he can buy another Italian sports car.

Good thing this is America and capitalism gives us the choice to eat at a restaurant that DOESN'T slap its customers with a bull**** 5% surcharge to make a political point.

    LOL...I haven't been to a Denny's in 25 years.

I hope he makes this clear up front. I would love for one of the douche bags to try and pawn off a surcharge with the bill. I'll laugh in their face, slip a double-sawbuck to the waitress on the sly, and walk out the door.
Gailey's history. He just doesn't know it yet.

On the flip side of hours getting reduced, my uncle works for Verizon and last week they had mandatory 12-hour work days, no days off. That's 12 hours, 7 days. This week they've reduced it to 6 days and 10 hours. Can you imagine how difficult that would be for somebody who was, say, a single parent?

    Man I wish I worked 12 hours a day 7 days a week.

I'd be rolling in dough and I'd stay out of trouble since there wouldn't be any idle time for me to become the devil's plaything.

I've been looking for part time work for extra cash, but even that's hard to come by.

Re: 25 hours will be the new "full time"..

The really sad part of this thread that's being completely overlooked is people are viewing jobs like this as long-term employment worthy of full benefit packages to begin with, instead of stepping stones for high schoolers and college students looking to pick up gas and date money. I've scanned through the thread, and admittedly may have missed a couple mentioned, but if anybody is really seriously pursuing a profession involving delivering pizzas, waiting tables, handing bags out of a take-out window, or stocking shelves you might want to take a few minutes and reconsider your career path.

Long you live and high you fly And smiles you'll give and tears you'll cry And all you touch and all you see Is all your life will ever be.
