"The maggots who voted for Obama" driving Texas away from the Union

    http://www.star-telegram.com/2012/11...ial-wants.html

One party official from Southeast Texas calls for -- not secession -- separation.

"Why should Vermont and Texas live under the same government?" writes Hardin County Republican treasurer Peter Morrison, a Ron Paul supporter and author of a race-heavy Tea Party newsletter.

"Let each go her own way," he writes, demanding an "amicable divorce" from the U.S. and from the "maggots" who re-elected President Obama.

Evoking the history of Confederate soldiers who refused to surrender after Gettysburg, Morrison, 33, calls for Texans to fight "in hopes that Providence might shine upon our cause."

Morrison is particularly angry at Asian-Americans and Hispanics who backed Obama, accusing them of voting on an "ethnic basis."

I think what he REALLY angry about is that Texas only has a few election cycles left before it becomes a Blue State (unless the teabaggers all drop dead, along with the wingnuts)

Need I bring THIS guy out of mothballs to explain what would happen if Texas DID secede from the U.S.?

If anybody is set up to, it's Texas. They do have their own power grid, which is something no other state can lay claim to.

Teamaggots. I like that. I think Texas also has some antique right to divide into several states, five at most. Not sure who that would help, but I think it would be cool.

Re: "The maggots who voted for Obama" driving Texas away from the Union

So the crazies who are screwing with the conservative base are doubling down after the thrashing they took? I can't for the life of me think of how to marginalize them out of the party so they aren't the tail that's wagging our dog.

As Republicans, we can't go vote for Democrats but we can't have the inmates running the asylum either.

    Any thoughts dear reader?

See post #2 and find out that, even with their own power grid, it'll still cost them boatloads of money if they decide to secede.

On the plus side for Texas if they left...they'd have their own oil to use.

Americans on the border would flock to Texas to buy the cheap gasoline.

And the Mexican army would invade them and they would cease to exist.

Of course it will, that's kind of a given.

Then we could remove the "fence" and personnel at the current Mexican border, build a wall all around our borders to Texas and let the Mexicans overrun Texas and build closer Corona factories. Makes perfect sense...I'm all for it!

That was to accommodate the implied "western boundary" for slavery and the southern boundary defined by the Missouri Compromise. If Texas ever did secede (and if the US let it), it could divide into as many states as it wanted.

What;s even funnier is that many GOP insiders are worried Texas will soon turn Blue.

Steve Munisteri, the fifty-four-year-old chairman of the Republican Party of Texas.........

..But Munisteri is more preoccupied by the racial and ethnic changes. He turned to a chart showing Texas’s population by ethnic group over the next few decades. A red line, representing the white population, plunged from almost fifty-five per cent, in 2000, to almost twenty-five per cent, in 2040; a blue line, the Hispanic population, climbed from thirty-two per cent to almost sixty per cent during the same period. He pointed to the spot where the two lines crossed, as if it augured a potential apocalypse. “This shows when Hispanics will become the largest group in the state,” he said. “That’s somewhere in 2014. We’re almost at 2013!” He added, “You cannot have a situation with the Hispanic community that we’ve had for forty years with the African-American community, where it’s a bloc of votes that you almost write off. You can’t do that with a group of citizens that are going to compose a majority of this state by 2020, and which will be a plurality of this state in about a year and a half.”

He told me that he had a slide that he wouldn’t show me, because he didn’t want Democrats to know about his calculations. He said that it depicted the percentage of the white vote that Republicans would have to attract if they continued to do as poorly as they have among Hispanics.

“By 2040, you’d have to get over a hundred per cent of the Anglo vote,” he said.

It'd be a shame to lose Austin, that place is pretty great. And the Alamo tour is nice way to spend an afternoon.

It's also the home away from home of an awesome drunk chick that owned a vw bus and came to SXSW every year.

    I love SXSW.
