USA Today has a piece on preppers today, too. The way things are going lately, it isn't a bad hobby.

What a bunch of lunatics.
If there is a Doomsday, their meager cans of pork and beans are going to eventually run out and they'll have to abandon their bomb shelter and battle roving gangs of cannibals to secure the world's last remaining resources ala The Road.
Duh.
also, I think I'd rather die in the doomsday event than share a small bomb shelter with a fat redneck who has nothing to eat but pork and beans from a can. I can't imagine a properly sealed bomb shelter has adequate ventilation for the resulting gastrointestinal distress.
I took the quiz, and at the end they suggested I was low on firearms.

I'm going to become a gloomsday prepper. Like hedging a bet. I don't think a full blown catastrophe of epic proportions will ever happen, but I do fear some major disruptions. Which preparing a little can help alleviate.
While I think being prepared is good spending the amounts of money that some of these people spend is insane.
I said you need to strive to better than everyone else. I didn't say you needed to be better than everyone else. But you gotta try. That's what character is. It's in the try.
It seems like a hobby to many of them. I'm sure there are other money wasting hobbies out there.
i have friends that live in the ""boonies"" and they can everything, they have a huge stockpile of canned food(done themselves, not store bought). although i dont think it would last them more than 6mo's-year tops.
