Have any of you had it so good at your job that you can get away with doing absolutly nothing, but show you presents and dont have to answer to a boss, and when you do see a boss its only for 5 mins..dont get me wrong im not complaining just bored.

I didnt say i wasnt doing anything but if i chose to do nothing I can get away with it...Its called having a government job. You should see what goes on around me.

GS's are impossible to fire as long as you are past your probational period.

You act like they are much better in GA? The Raleigh area is actually doing well with job growth and will be doing a lot better in the near future. NC is at 9.6% unemployment (GA 9.2 fwiw). Assuming you're in Wake County you're looking at 7% which is below the national rate (7.9%).
In the job I had prior to this one I had your situation for about a year. I was part of building an environmental lab on a military base but once we got involved in Iraq the money dried up so our workload was cut to a trickle.
Once it was decided the base was being closed all new construction stopped as well so it was as dull as can be. Add in that I was one of the bosses so the only one I had to answer to was a couple DOD pencil pushers and I got plenty of internet time in.
That's when I was in a Masters program so I wrote a lot of papers before I left to teach.
I said you need to strive to better than everyone else. I didn't say you needed to be better than everyone else. But you gotta try. That's what character is. It's in the try.

The GS system is the governmen't best kept secret. Once you're in, you're in! My wife made it in a couple of years ago and I plan on doing that when i retire in less than 4 years now. WOOHOO!

I've had a job for two years and my contract ends by the end of the year. I was going to get promoted but the recent economic circumstances made them cut the headcount. Just found out two days ago.
I love this job and this absolutely sucks. Now it's back to handing in applications. God I hate that ****!
