BBD: Syracuse QB Ryan Nassib Building A Solid Resume

The season was only hours old when you knew this could be a special year for the man behind center for the Orange. After falling behind 35-13 midway through the third quarter, Ryan Nassib orchestrated a comeback that would foretell the stretch run the Orange are currently riding. Nassib threw 4 TD passes on consecutive drives to take a 41-35 lead with 2:40 left.

I like him but haven't seen a lot of him. People have been buzzing about Nassib all year but the phrase I hear a lot is "he will be an NFL backup QB for a long time"

So, what exactly is it about him that says he's not a potential starter to these folks? That above quote reminds me of the Tom Brady talk.

All I'm saying is he's producing at a high level and he has to have better physical tools than guys like Fitzpatrick so is it that scouts just like to label guys early and kind of just work off that until they are really proven wrong? Or is there some big incorrect-able flaw in his game?

Plus Nassib.. was very turnover prone....Took alot of bad sacks...threw bad int's..He has realy improved...His leadership lately is very impressive...Need work on throw with less velocity in certain situations...touch passes...I think with a good bowl game and workouts.. he could go in rd three maybe low 2nd..

Nassib was nothing short of fantastic this year. Him and Alec Lemon really found their chemistry during the season and it was fun to watch. If Nassib did this on a team with more national coverage I think he would be talked about much more as a potential high draft pick. I mean he was consistently in the top ten in passing yards throughout the season, awesome to see a cuse QB do that.

im expecting his draft stock to soar once pro scouts get a look at his arm and sit him down to talk to him and get a feel for who he is as a player and person. He certainly has work to do. Like was said above he definitely needs to work on his touch passes...throwing it to your RB in the flat at 100 mph isn't what you wanna do all the time, and his deep ball ain't perfect. But he has made leaps and bounds every year of his cuse career, which has been impressive. Pretty sure he now owns a bunch of records over some truly great Orangemen QBs. Plus the offense he ran at cuse translates much better to the NFL than a lot of other prospects coming from spread offenses.

I think he wows enough teams at his workouts and will interview so well, that at least one team falls in love with him enough to take him in the second round. After that? I see him as a career back up.

West coast offense maybe... But he's not someone that can work the perimeter.

What measure are you using to base this off of? I saw him launch plenty of passes down the sideline to Lemon this year.

Difference between a go- route and deep outs, comebacks, post corners, deep ins.

All of which he's thrown with relative consistency this year. What game are you basing the eval on? I've seen lots of things questioned with Nassib, not one person has really said they question his posistional arm strength.

I see Russ Brandon's fingerprints all over this one. There are lots of Syracuse fans in WNY within game day driving distance. I didn't see any Syracuse games this year so I can't comment on Nassib's actual talent, but from a marketing perspective, this would be a great way to get back some of that waning fan interest.

I just hope marketing decisions don't trump football decisions like they usually do in Buffalo (TO, Marv Levy as GM....)

What the hell is positional arm strength?
Where else would you rather be than right here right now?
