Fred Jackson-Do you think he's happy being technically a #2 RB?

My brother and I were talking about Fred possibly not being thrilled about his workload being cut now and here's a nightmare scenario. Let's say he gets traded at the end of the season and he winds up as a New York Jet? It's possible this can happen because the Jets don't have a solid RB. He's one of my favorite new school Bills players and it would be cold blooded if they let him go.

I think Freddie will be just fine with a diminished role so long as he's still in the plans. More than anyone on the team I think he justs wants to see us win... and I don't see him going anywhere after the season ends.

Don't ever see Fred being traded. He is worth more to us as a #2 RB than to any other team in the league as a starter.

I think Fred is smart enough to see the writing on the wall. He got the contract bump he wanted, he will be just fine.

if fred jackson can survive as the red zone specialist and get the td's and see the turnaround with the team with his current contract, he'll be happy.

Too bad for Fred if he is. Spiller is better, and plus I guarantee Fred will get touches. If anything it will prolong his career as he is on the wrong side of 30.

If it leads to more wins I dont think he'll care

He got his new deal, he's a team guy, and he might have realized at his age a lighter workload will help him stay healthy and extend his career

Why would we trade a player to a rival? Who does that in the NFL? The only time it happens is when the player is on a sharp decline e.g: Bledsoe, McNabb

Above all else, FJ is a team guy, and if the team is winning and he is contributing I can't see him being upset about much.

Re: Fred Jackson-Do you think he's happy being technically a #2 RB?

The guy is a 32 year old undrafted FA running back who was bouncing around bush league football teams a couple of years ago.

I think he's happy he has a contract and a job. And he knew what the deal was with CJ when he signed the contract.

I can't imagine he's disgruntled, especially when he's still getting plenty of carries.

And as incompetent as this FO is, I can't see them doing something as ****ing stupid as trading a starting-caliber RB to a division opponent when we have the worst run D in the league.

He's known the score ever since we signed him to back up a Top 15 pick halfback and then drafted a Top 10 halfback to replace him.

And he's not being traded. His contract is untradeable.

I personally don't care if he's happy. As long as he does his job. He got his contract.
True fans want wins, not draft picks.

    Good post.
If anything, this could prolong Jackson's career, he will be 32 soon and RB's decline fast at this age, at times this season Jackson has shown signs of slowing down, if he hadn't been injured and had time off, the toll of 10 games might have caught up to him by now, there's no telling that for sure, but very few backs have been productive at his age. It also seems that he and Spiller have a good relationship and there's no animosity between them, so Spiller getting the nod, shouldn't be a problem. I also believe that there will not be that big of a difference in the amount of touches gets, Jackson's averaging around 10 carries a game, I don't think it will be much less. We may just see Spiller getting the ball more than he has, hopefully meaning that they'll use the two RB's more.

Even if the Bills did decide to trade Jackson which they wont, it definitely wont be to a team in our own division. The only way Jackson would end up with the Jets is if the Bills cut him. That has no realistic shot of happening any time soon unless he blows a knee out, or something, in which case the Bills would be better off without him anyway. Then you could bet the house that the Bills spend a draft pick on another RB to replace him. Nix and Gailey favor the 2 back system.

Re: Fred Jackson-Do you think he's happy being technically a #2 RB?

I'm sorry, but did I miss something? Since when is Fred "technically" a #2 RB? He always gets more carries than any other RB when he is playing. Look it up...it's true.

I really don't see any reason for Freddie to be upset. He's making decent money, and getting more carries than the guy that is clearly better than he is.

Also, forget about trading him. He'd get no value...a guy his age and resume. While I've always liked Freddie and his story, some people are WAY over the top with their love. There seems to be some ridiculous misconception over what he's actually accomplished in this league. Is he a good player? Of course. Is he a great player? No. He was having a great run last year, sure...but he's only broken the 1,000 yard barrier ONCE in his career...and that was largely because he had over 200 yards against the Colts' third stringers in the final game of the season. They were a bad run defense even on first string.

The important thing here is that we don't owe Freddie *****. He should get a lot fewer carries and touches than he is now, ask me. This is a business. You don't play a guy more because you like him. This is ridiculous. I couldn't care less if he's happy with reality...the reality is that he'd better get used to the idea that there is a much better RB on this team than him. Chan had better wise up and see the obvious, and that is Spiller should take some of Fred's carries away from him.

...#2 back, my ass, though. Spiller is the #2 back, and has been all year. They are trying to split carries to some kind of degree, but that's stupid to an even larger degree. Fair is to play the better guy more, and that hasn't happened. Spiller has incentives in his contract worth a lot of money...how is he supposed to meet them if they keep taking him out of the game?

Gailey stated earlier in the week that Spiller will start and get the majority of the carries.

Re: Fred Jackson-Do you think he's happy being technically a #2 RB?

But one of the things I like best about Freddie is that he is a team player. He should understand the situation and be fine with it IMO. It's not like he won't be seeing the ball, either. This is a huge game for the Bills this week against the Colts. They really NEED to win this game. Some fans have given up on the season, but the team hasn't. Say what you want, but they are still in the hunt.
