    Spiller's workload to spike

It’s not the way Bills fans wanted to see C.J. Spiller get more of the workload in Buffalo’s ground game, but with Fred Jackson out for the rest of the season with a grade two sprain of the MCL in his right knee, Spiller is going to be busy over the Bills final three regular season games.

“We’re going to get the opportunity here in the next few weeks for him to get it a lot and we won’t have what I term two great backs,” said head coach Chan Gailey knowing Jackson is lost for the rest of the season. “I think Tashard (Choice) is a very good back, but to me he’s not in Fred’s category. So there won’t be a lot of sharing of duties. C.J. will have to take a big part of the load now.”

That’s fine by Spiller coming off a game in which he had eight opportunities with the football in Sunday’s loss to St. Louis.

“(I’m) just eager to try to see what I can do to try to help us win because mathematically we think there’s still a chance that an 8-8 team can get to the playoffs and we want to be that 8-8 team,” said Spiller. “There are three games left and it’s pretty much backs against the wall and we pretty much need to see if we can step up and make the plays.”

We better make sure we keep the paramedics around in case he collapses from being "winded" and from exhaustion from the increased workload. Chan the Man better keep a close eye on his personal safety.

    I call bull****.

The Bills have played 13 games thus far... I'd estimate that, after about 11 of those games played, Gailey has said something to the effect of getting Spiller the ball more. Then, pretty much every Sunday after, we have seen the same single-digit carries.

He's had Spiller for three years. Hell, we were told that he wanted Spiller because he wanted a "quick-as-a-cat water bugs that are running backs-slash-receivers that might give you a little bit of a punch on the field, maybe make a big play.” http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...t-a-water-bug/

Yet, three years later, Gailey still doesn't realize that, in order to make a big play, Spiller has to actually be on the ******* field.

As for Choice not being a "great" back, I would agree... But, how much do you wanna bet that, if the Bills get into the red zone, Choice will be on the field instead of Spiller?

Fred was out earlier this year. What happened then? More choice, not much more CJ.

      Fireable.

Tashard Choice is putting his running shoes on and tying 'em real tight, because he's gonna be our feature back now! Especially in the red zone.

How's he going to handle more of workload? According to Gailey he can barely handle 10 carries a game.

Depending on the score and the flow of the game I could see CJ getting around 20 touches give or take. Somewhere around 15-20 carries at the very most and 5 receptions. If he gets any less then that unless it's a complete blowout before you have a chance to establish the running game then Gailey needs to be fired on the spot.

If it's close throughout the game and we end up winging the ball with Fitzpatrick 40 times while Spiller sees 12 carries and Choice has 6 carries then somebody needs to dust off the wheelchair and Ralph should take his diaper wearing ass down the to the press conference and fire Gailey in front of everyone.

Basically after spending the 9th pick of the draft on a RB we didn't need at the time three years later he basically has a little more then one season's worth of touches for a RB who received a lot of work that season. We got lucky enough to get a game changer and we don't even take advantage of it.

            325 carries for 1,788 yards and 9 TD's
            97 receptions for 780 yards and 4 TD's

422 total touches for 2,568 yards and 13 TD's in 43 games. That basically means he is only averaging just under 10 touches a game since we drafted him even though he's averaging 6 yards whenever he touches the ball and if you take out his rookie season he has 324 touches for 2,128 yards and 12 TD's in 29 games for an average of 6.5 yards per touch.

The sad part is he wouldn't even have that many carries if Jackson wasn't injured the last 6 games of 2011 and hadn't missed several games to injury this year too. He would probably only have about 300 total touches in 3 years if not for Jackson's injuries.

Them 324 touches should be a seasons worth of touches and not 2 seasons especially with this crappy QB. Them kind of stats would put him up with the top RB's in the game and easily a Pro Bowl player. Gailey's misuse of Spiller shows complete incompetence and it's surprising nobody upstairs hasn't made him give him the rock more.

We're 4-3 in games where Spiller touched the ball at least 15 times this season. We're 1-5 in games when he hasn't.

                Re: Spiller's workload to spike

Gailey always tries to downplay Spiller, a number of times he has said that Spiller lost a yard on the play when in fact he had gained a yard or two, when saying he was winded he talked about Spiller taking himself out at times during the game, Spiller said he asked to come out 1 time against against the Rams and he couldn't get back in. Gailey has even said that Spiller is successful because he's running on plays where the defense is not expecting a run, how ridiculous is that, BTW, every carry Spiller had against the Rams came on 1st down. If the Bills have the ball on 1st down and Spiller is in the backfield, do you think the defense is not expecting a run, if they're not, that defensive coordinator needs to be fired, of course Gailey would probably think pass. If CJ was an everyday back and Jackson was performing like he has in the past, it would be a different story, but the fact is that CJ is not an everyday back and Jackson has struggled badly this season, his lowest stats of his career, including a 3.8 ypa, which is not good at all for a starting back. The way Gailey has handled this alone, is reason to be fired. I wont be surprised to see Choice get 2/3 of the carries Spiller gets on Sunday.

And if Choice gets hurt, they'll bring back 40 year old A-Train Anthony Thomas from his counter job at Panera Bread and give him the ball 22 times ( for 35 yards ) in his first game, while giving Spiller 7 total touches. Gailey will call him his " bread & butter " ( pun intended )

                    Re: Spiller's workload to spike

i'm torn now. knowing that gailey is essentially done. why let him run Spiller. He should be treated like a child and have his toys taken away for bad behaviour.

CJ should be IR'd to preserve him for hopefully a coach with a clue.

When Spiller is on the field, everyone knows that he is a lethal weapon if he touches the ball. there is no sneaking spiller onto the field and not thinking he's touching the ball. and he's still putting up insane numbers.
