Still Think Nix & Gailey Could Be Canned In January

The obvious opinion to many is Ralph is too disconnected to do anything or care. I bet he still understands ... and what Littman and Brandon tell him about declining gate revenue could trigger a change.

That Gailey may have a year left on his deal means little. They're currently paying a QB 1.75 Mil to be a healthy scratch every Sunday. Checkmate.

Brandon is the team President and runs the team locally. He also has to market the team. Gailey & Fitz equals season ticket renewels ? In what world ? Unless I live for the tailgate and stay blind to the on field product, I'm staying home.

Nix is 73, a scout first (not a GM) and his more than ready 40 something replacement is already here (Whaley). Think Whaley doesn't understand the value of a QB with an actual arm and mobility to keep a play alive ? Picking a coach that actually knows how to use his weapons properly (see Spiller) and knowing that the game has actually evolved ? I'd sure be willing to give him that chance.

Is Ralph and the front office afraid of a young sharp black man in charge, after having Boss Hogg and Roscoe P. Coltrane do nothing for 3 years while touting their stubborn positions that don't yield results ?

Apathy towards change isn't a good marketing angle for future success & ticket sales. Something tells me Brandon knows this better than his 94 year old boss.

Talent is here and more is needed. What isn't needed is the current mindset of settling for 5-6 wins and not doing something to improve.

A Head Coach with vision, QB & MLB is a good start. It also may revive the ticket buying public.

I'll buy the Club Seats I walked away from 3 years ago... if the right moves are made.

Chan & Buddy are going no where, like this team.

Bag 'em both. Promote Whaley, and get a HC in here who knows how to hire quality coordinators that can properly utilize the talent on the roster. Hopefully we can snag Te'o in the first, and a QB in the second or move back up for one. Playoffs.

I really hope you're right, but they'll probably keep those morons for at least another year and try to drive ticket sales by signing a good free agent (Dwayne Bowe?) and drafting a QB; unfortunately, that'll likely be enough to get people to RWS in droves even with the incompetent trio from hell - Nix, Gailey and Fitzpatrick - still in the organization.

I hope they are both gone as soon as the season is over.

I am always hearing how $$$ spent on players means they will spend $$$ on coaches. I hate to tell you this but player salaries are part of a whole separate cauldron of $$$ that are modeled and supplemented in the revenue sharing agreements. To continue to keep this line of thinking active is to empower the marketing BS of OBD!!!!

Hitler never wanted Gailey hired in the first place.

Re: Still Think Nix & Gailey Could Be Canned In January

Gailey maybe, but I can't see Nix being canned tbh.
I believe that Ralph trusts Nix as a talent evaluator, and I also think he's right to do so.
The point made earlier about paying for coaches, is well made. Ralph has always been prepared to pay, or pay for, players, it's coaches he doesn't like paying, as that affects his bottom line, far more than giving big $ to players, when most of that money has to be spent anyway.
Should Gailey be canned, the problem then becomes who do you get to replace him?
Closely followed by what defensive scheme would he be thinking of running?
The D is actually improving, and with one or two additions, could well progress to what we thought it could be this year, next year. But only if whatever DC we have, isn't going to go to a 3-4. The likes of Moore and Carrington, have come through, and have found their niche, and that gives the D good options, and depth. The D is very close to being in the state of 'if it isn't broke' don't fix it'.
In actual fact, the last few games can solidify, or deny that statement, as both the Squawks and Jest will try to run all over us. If the D withstands them well, then I think it's safe to say they are going to get better still, but only if any scheme change, is within a 4-3 base.

Do you really trust Whaley to get the job done? He is the hand picked assistant of . . . Buddy!!!!! This is akin to Ralph deciding to hire Buddy all over again because he is already on staff and because it is easy.

Why not do a proper search for a legitimate GM candidate? Do we really want anyone who has been influnenced by Buddy?

                          I sure don't.

I bet Whaley doesn't have one thing in common with Buddy, who is nothing more than a glorified scout thrown into a job he can't handle by a disconnected owner.

I sat in the Maguire club, with Nix and Whaley sitting right behind me in the GM box. They sat apart from each other and never talked. One paid his dues, moving up slowly in the Steelers organization and learning. One was a scout Ralph knew.

If Whaley was so good why did he leave the Steelers, a far superior organization, to make a lateral move to Buffalo? Whaley is not the answer.
